policy regarding room search

I was wondering if anyone knew anything regarding does a sorority have a right to come into your room and search your belongings without probable cause. I currently live in my sorority house and there has been a few people drinking that lived in but nothing too serious/no one caught in trouble for it but then out of the blue they said it can't happen anymore and the chapter adviser went into every room, despite there being evidence of any drugs existing, and went through everyone's stuff. is that illegal? any thoughts.

Check your housing agreement. Hopefully residents were present as their things were searched (if it is allowed).

If the advisor isn't a paid employee of either the school (if the house is on campus) or the sorority housing corporation, she has no business searching the common area, let alone individual bedrooms.

If your lease makes it legal, and I'll bet it does, then yeah, she can do that.

If not, she's trespassing.

Regardless of that, if you're going to standards because she found something in your room, the fact that the advisor violated your property rights to get the evidence against you probably doesn't matter.
