Talking Remember the good ol' Daze?

Now I am not talk ing about the times when Fraternities held open parties or when sororities were... well soroities never really changed, but what I'm talking about is when there was no Sorority Life or Fraternity Life on MTV. Not to say that that its not interesting or fun to watch (although to me it really isn't) but that show hurts national organizations by showing a fraternity or sorority from a perspective that it is okay to haze associates (or whatever you call those maggots!). No one ever says that these aren't national organizations and that they don't have extreme consequences if they are shown hazing (like the house being shut down, but that will only happen if the house is controlled by nationals. The houses can be shut down by the school afterwards if it is controlled by them). And why can't MTV do it at a large school like UCLA, Penn State, or maybe even Florida State. That would be way more interesting I think. A national GLO at a major university with over 80 members. Imagine the ratings!

Getting back to the point of the post... Remember when there were no postins about this show. It seems that only postings these days are about this crap show. Well, how about this, lets post only about pertinent and informative subjects from now on. Not to discuss what happened in Fraternity Life last night. It's kind of disheartening to come on here and see 5 recent posts for this show and nothing else. How about those USC trojans eh. I would say Huskies but its not their year this year. But anyways, can I get a F--- WAZZU?

If you will tell me

If you will tell me who is forcing you to read posts about Fraternity Life, I will personally say something bad to them.

In case you are too old to detect sarcasm, if you don't care about Fraternity Life, don't read the posts, and don't criticize those who do. This is not your forum.

I never criticized people for watching that crap. I just criticized the crap. I did mention that it would be nice to see a Greek Life forum that was not detecated to (and I am sorry that you may like these shows but personal attacks on me ( "too old to detect sarcasm") won't help me or you in your goal... which is?) It sounds as f your goal is to bitch at me for bitchin'. But as you said these are not your forums. I would think that you who are so experienced in the ways of Greek Chat would know this... or maybe thats a bad assumption because the amount of posts you have on this thing doesn't make you better than anyone else. But here is a little facetiousness for ya:

Your right...

This show is awesome and it totally represents all of "Fraternity Life".

The fact that things we see everyday on that show (including hazing) are unimportant to me because I am in a National Organization and everyone makes the distinction between the two (national and local) and that parents who may see this show will form an opinion about fraternities based on only local fraternities laws and not a nationals rules and reg's.

i may be reading this wrong, but are you suggesting that sorority or fraternity life follow a national glo? if you are, that would never happen. i can not think of any nationals that would allow one of their chapters to participate because they know that the editing would make the chapter look like all they do is drink, haze, etc. exactly what we are seeing now with the locals. here is an example for you. i went to school that has a fairly large and active greek community. it was either cnn or msnbc, i want to say msnbc though, were planning on coming to my school my junior year. they were doing a story on greek life and wanted to speak with fraternity and sorority members on campus. every single chapters hq found out about it and we were all sent letters saying that we were not allowed to speak with any of the reporters at all. the greek affairs dept also told us this. the people filming the story found out that no one would be speaking to them and ended up cancelling coming to school to do the story. unfortunately, with editing, no matter what you say can be twisted, either into a positive or a negative, regardless if you meant it to be that way.

Understood

I was being sarcastic mu_agd. Although I guess I am not very good at this sarcasm thing as per the two people before you suggested. I totally agree with everything you said please refer to my last post on Fraternity Life 4 (I think)

Thanks,

J

thetaxiuw, you have made some good points. mtv doesn't make the distinction between the local fraternities/sororities that are featured on f/s life and national glos, so people who are not "in the know" will think that all orgs. are like those on tv. there is no disclaimer stating that fact. and believe it or not, some viewers may not realize that the show is heavily edited so that boring, mundane stuff is deleted and more controversial stuff is shown. it's all a ratings game.....but then i can remember when mtv was just videos!! a national glo will never get premission from their national officers to be featured on fraternity/sorority life . too many variables to deal with.
