I live in the Atlanta area but not an alumna of a GLO. My active status didn't end when I received my degree.

Hi 12dn94dst,
Sorry to sound ignorant here... You're out of school but are still considered an active collegiate member of your sorority? Did I understand that correctly? If so, at what point do you become an alumna of your organization? Just curious!
Thanks,
Carrie

For NPHC orgs, once you receive your baccalaureate, you are no longer considered a collegiate/undergraduate member. After graduation, you would then join an alumnae/graduate chapter but are still considered 'active' if you meet certain financial requirements. The procedures vary from org to org but the principle is the same. This is the basis for the 'lifetime committment' of which we often speak. There are some old threads in both the GreekLife forum and NPHC org forums that touch on this issue more.

Thanks, Serenity! It's always interesting to me to find out differences between all of our groups.
With my sorority, our alumnae who are considered "active" are members of organized alumnae chapters and pay annual dues to support our National Headquarters. The dues, however, are much lower as an alumna than as a collegiate, mainly because our alumnae chapters do not have as many overhead costs as the collegiate chapters.
Have a great day, everyone!

BTW, in my chapter- You can go alumna if:
1) you graduate
2) transfer to another school that doesn't have AlphaGam
3) get married
4) 5th year senior

As I said on another thread--I vote that the GCers in Atlanta have a get-together one Saturday!

Great idea, carnation!
Sounds like a plan to me! As long as it's scheduled after the Georgia Tech football season, I'm up for it!
