Pledging time commitment equal to a class?

I'm interested in whether various people think that the amount of time spent pledging a fraternity or sorority is generally less, more or about the same as that spent on a class (standard class, 3 hours in lecture and maybe 1 hour with a TA per week, and the expected time for a homework, so 7-8 hours/week(?)).

I recognize that for some fraternities and sororities, the last week prior to initiation has significantly more commitment. If so, I'm looking more for the previous weeks.
