UVic ends ex-student's 18-year stay in residence

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...rticle1423380/

Okay, this guy hasn't completed any credit courses since 1997 and he still wants to live in rez. WTF. And of course, he's manipulating the media by playing the "disability" card as an excuse.

Excuse me - if you're not enrolled in a full time course load at that university, you have no business living in rez. The disability claim has no relevance here at all. If you'er not going to UVIC on a full time basis, then get off campus, and make room for other students..

At my wife's University, a couple of semesters after she left, the *one* professor in the Foreign Language department who taught German died about a month into the spring semester. The University was unable to quickly get a replacement professor during the spring semester and cancelled all of the German classes.

A few of the students who were foreign language majors focusing in German, were dropped below full time status, but the school, other that refunding the difference between full-time tuition and what they would have paid based on the reduced loan as a part time student, didn't change anything else.

That is a rare instance and is irrelevant here. This dipstick hasnt been full time since 1997---for like almost 12 years or so... My questions is why the hell did the university wait this long to kick his ass out?

Don't universities have time limits on completing a degree? Even with his disability (i think the article said he was "sick" for 2 years?) you can only maintain matriculation but so long.

Plus, he's taking non-credit courses. How does he plan on finishing his degree? AND. he already has two bachelors.

This is the university's fault. They were too busy collecting his $600 rent check every month to notice they had a real issue.

Yes, and also the politicians here in Canada have set it up so that situations like this happen and people are tippy-toeing around each other due to claimed "rights" and are afraid to confront someone and be the bad guy.

As for the dead German prof mentioned a few posts ago, it's unfortunate for those students, but they didn't hang around residence for 18 years like social degenerates.

I personally thinks it's disgusting that someone would take advantage of university housing (which let's face it, is subsidized housing) for 18 years, taking up a space that a LEGITIMATE student could have used.
