Sweetest Day

Okay, a few dillemmas I am having:

1. Is it Friday or Saturday? Every flower shop in Champaign says something different.

2. Do men know that this holiday exists?

3. Are girls expected to buy something for their boyfriends?

Help me out, this is causing a lot of stress for me.

I've heard of the holiday, but have no clue when it is...in fact, barely recall it from 4th or 5th grade, and heard it mentioned once in college. If you buy them something, they're likely not to know why, really...but would undoubtedly appreciate it. I sincerely doubt he's waiting in anticipation for any sort of a gift though...

Sweetest Day is October 20th this year. I know because my b-day is Oct 19 and I wanted it to be on my birthday! I have no idea what the real origin of the holiday is but I always thought it was a semi Valentine's day and you bought stuff for someone you were "sweet" on. Sounds like a good idea to me!

Haha, something bad having to do with girls always happens to me on Valentine's Day - whether it's getting dumped or a girl running out of a date party on me....so on Sweetness Day should I expect something just mildly bad to happen?

I think bosses day was either Monday or some time this week. When I got to work this morning one of the ladies I work with showed me what she had gotten our boss for bosses day. Plus the secretaries that work for one of my dad's friends had decorated his office earlier this week.

I had never heard about Sweetest Day until I went to school In Michigan. It started out in the Midwest but is now becoming popular all over.
Sweetest Day supposedly started during the Depression. A guy who had barely lost in money in the crash and wasnt doing too bad thought it would be nice to just have a day where people helped each other out. The guy and others helped out homeless people and more, so the day became Sweetest Day. Your being Sweet to others.
However somewhere down the line it got turned into a Hallmark Holiday and now its the same damn thing (bitter...YES!! ) as Valentines Day, just later in the year. Girls can exchange stuff with guys and guys can exchange stuff with girls. And even though im a girl, there probably was some girl who got back at her bf with this and its how it got started. Same with Valentines Day, cuz your actually suppose tp be recognizing the Saint Valentine and his work.

Sweetest Day

Heres some info on the"holiday"

Sweetest Day is always the third saturday in October
"Over 60 years ago, a Cleveland man, believing that the city's orphans and shut ins too often felt forgotten and neglected, conceived the idea of showing them that they were remembered . He did this through the distribution of small gifts. With the help of his friends and neighbors, he distributed these small remembrances on a saturday in October. During the years followed , other Clevelanders began to participate in the celebration ceremony, which came to be called " Sweetest Day". In time, the Sweetest Day idea of spreading cheer to the underprivileged was broadebed to include everyone and became an occasion for remebering others with a kind act or small rememberance. Abnd soon the idea spread to cities all over the country."

I think it's cute and specially helpful in these times and ages. So Happy Early Sweetest Day everyone

DGPhoney~

You know what we were told about Sweetest Day in college floriculture classes? That florists created it because October is a slow time in their industry.
