Another wonderfully dedicated sister who contributed much to our beloved Fraternity has entered Chapter Grand. Ruth Breitenstein Henritze passed away December 15th.
From her obituary:
She graduated with honors and a bachelors degree in business from the University of Kentucky in 1953. She was a member of several fraternal organizations. She had over a 50 year affiliation with Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity. She held many positions from Province Director –Undergraduates for Province II, Director of New Chapter Development, Grand Vice President-Undergraduates and finally culminating with her being elected the 16th International President of the Fraternity. She was also heavily involved in the National Pan-Hellenic Council and Interfraternity Council. She was a supporter and mentor for the American Association of University Women. She formerly had her own accounting firm. She and her family lived in nine states from the East coast to the Rocky Mountains. An extremely independent woman Ruth was never one to sit it out on the sidelines.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions may be made to the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation Annual fund. 3905 Vincennes Road, Suite 105, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46268, in memory of Ruth.
Independent, strong willed and a great MOM, SISTER and mentor. We will all miss her.

On a personal note, when I was a young CA in 1990 and our chapter was having some issues, I had to talk with Ruth, because she was GVPU at the time, and I was so terrified because, at that time, I thought Grand Council members were very scary. She was so kind and empathetic with me and it was the first time it dawned on me that these women were dedicated and caring sisters, not scary, punitive leaders. Ruth was dynamic and spunky and truly inspiring to me. May she rest in peace with our founders and sisters who have gone before her.
