National Charity League Partnering with Kappa Delta
I just received a newsletter from National Charity League saying they have formed a national partnership with Kappa Delta.
For those who may not be familiar with NCL, it is a Mother/Daughter Philanthropic organization. It is a six year program with mothers and daughters completing volunteer philanthropy hours, organizing grade level and chapter events and attending regular cultural activities. National Charity League is very big in the west and some areas of the south, especially Texas and Georgia. NCL was founded over 50 years ago with mothers and daughters in the west Los Angeles area.
I am wondering what the implication may be for future sorority recruitment, especially with the Texas and Georgia schools where KD has many chapters. Any thoughts??

I'd guess none whatsoever. KD was affiliated (please KDs, a better word if that one doesn't suit) with the Girl Scouts previously, and I highly doubt that ex-Girl Scouts automatically received bids.

GSA is one of KD's philanthropies.National Charity League is NOT a charity, but raises money for charities. If young NCL women work closely with KD women on joint charity projects in jr/high school, it would provide great exposure to the KD house long before the women even thinks about college. A real positive for the greek system but also KD. I certainly realize that being in NCL would not give them any in-road into joining KD but it certainly might give KD a step up when it comes to recruiting young women. Just a thought.

We are still working with Girl Scouts. Actually, from what I can tell as a member, it appears KD is focusing on "girl power". It seems we are partnering with many organizations that lift up young girls and empower them. I really don't know, it just seems that way to me. I know we also have something to do with the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty as well and also an anti-bullying campaign.

I read a press release on this and KD and NCL are partnering together on a grant for leadership programming through the NCL. (at least, that is what I gathered from the press release I found on the web during a google search). It seems like more of a philanthropy endeavor in the tradition of the other worthy organizations KD has partnered with recently.

Why would it make any difference? I honestly can't see what difference it would make. Maybe this relationship would make PNMs who are involved with the NCL more interested in KD. But isn't going into recruitment with one sorority set in your mind pretty much teh kiss of death? If so I can see this actually hurting KD if anything else.

My friend's daughter was a deb with NCL last year. I know that, in addition to the fundraising and social activities, there are etiquette lessons. (I wasn't paying all that much attention. Perhaps this happens when the girls are younger.) Could this give some girls a leg up in the sense that they could be trained for recruitment as well as for fundraising? Perhaps. (There aren't any KD chapters in our area, which is where NCL was founded.) But, in Georgia and Texas...wouldn't these girls know each other already?

KD has also partnered with the Junior League in the past.
But honestly, who cares who they partner with? Are you insinuating that KD is doing things to get an unfair advantage in recruitment? If so, that's pretty pathetic. Organizations partner with other organizations all the time for various endeavors.
I'd never even heard of NCL before reading this post.

I don't think it will have any impact on future recruitment specifically for Kappa Delta. It might shed a more positive light on sororities in general for those who participate though.

Of course not, but IMHO, it's not crazy to suppose that former Girl Scout PNMs might come in with a positive impression of KD. That's never bad for an organization. I imagine the same might be true for PNMs who have been involved with breast cancer fundraising during high school and worked with members of ZTA.

Leslie Anne:
Sorry!!!! When I was there I must have had severe myopic vision.
But to add further to my original comment: Since NCL teaches young women about raising money and volunteering one's time to help others, I imagine that any sorority would respect a young woman's involvement.
Again, to all Kappa Deltas, I sincerely apologize for my lack of knowledge.

I was a girl scout and I had absolutely no knowledge of KD. Maybe it's more recent but I can't imagine it having any more effect than a positive philanthropic endeavor for both NCL and KD.

I do not see the partnership as an advantage to KD. I see it as an advantage to the Greek System as a whole. The young women and their mothers are exposed to the positive features of Greek life, not just all the negative stereotypes that fill our newspapers on a regular basis.
A large number of NCL around me are mothers who are Greek and want to expose their daughters to charity and volunteering at a young age, thus it will be engrained as something important when their daughters leave for college.
