Miss Penny Lane's Fall Recruitment '09!
Hi GC!
Recruitment for me just ended so I thought I'd share my story with you all :] I rushed as a sophomore.
At my school there are four Panhellenic sororities, which I'll refer to as:
Hershey's
Reese's
KitKat
Snickers
Before formal recruitment started, I went to check out the tables each sorority had set up to meet the girls and get a feel for each one. Before I had even come close to the tables, a girl from Snickers waved at me from across the quad and came over to me, and asked if I'd thought about joining a sorority. She seemed really excited and was even more excited when I told her I definitely wanted to go through recruitment. She introduced me to the other girls and we talked a bit. Most of them seemed really interested in me, and conversation flowed pretty easily. The girls were really pretty and struck me as very cool and as "party girls" - however, even though I don't consider myself any of those things, I thought I might see myself as one of them - if only because they were all extremely friendly, outgoing, and easy to get along with. There were more girls at the Snickers table than at any of the other tables and they all seemed really close, which I liked.
Next I went to the Reese's table. There were only three girls as this table, and all were sitting down talking to each other. All three were absolutely gorgeous, and I felt a bit intimidated by this. Only one stood up to talk to me - the other two didn't acknowledge me. The girl that talked to me told me the basics about Reese's - the philanthropy, the events, etc. She pointed to the different things on the table and talked about them briefly, but conversation didn't flow much beyond that. I left the table feeling that she hadn't had much interest in me and that I didn't have much interest in Reese's. However, I told myself not to rule them out based on just one day and to wait to meet more of their girls throughout recruitment and give them a fair chance.
Third was the Hershey's table. These girls seemed very real and down to earth. All of them were very friendly, if perhaps a bit on the shy side. I seemed to have a lot in common with several of the girls I spoke with. We talked about all kinds of random subjects and conversation flowed very easily. I met lots of girls from this chapter. A few of them seemed somewhat interested in me. I felt that of the three chapters I'd met with so far, I felt like I would fit in the most with Hershey's.
Last was the KitKat table. When I'd approached them, the five or six girls there had all been engaged in conversation with each other, and I kind of felt like I was just an interruption to them. The girls seemed nice enough, but I didn't have much in common with them, and didn't stay long at the table.
I knew it was much too soon to make any real decisions, but if I'd had to rank them on this day, I would have ranked them as:
1. Hershey's
2. Snickers
3. Reese's
4. KitKat
(Sorry if my writing is bad, I don't usually do this kind of thing!)
Stay tuned for the next installment!
