Sorority Girls in ROTC???

OK, I was wondering if any of yall had members/pledges in ROTC. I just found out I got a 4-year Navy ROTC scholarship to Auburn (I'm a senior in high school), and I am still planning to Rush. I don't know if this is acceptable from either side, though, especially in the South. This may sound incredibly shallow, but my question is, do any of your GLO's actually extend bids to girls who are in ROTC??? I mean, is there any kind of stigma? Any response would be appreciated!

I don't think it should be a problem. One of my pledge sisters is in ROTC. And the fact of the matter is that not a lot of people have the dedication and ability to do ROTC, so the fact that you got a scholarship for it should be a plus! Go for, and if they think that you being in ROTC is a bad thing, then they would be a good organization for you!

One of our presidents was in ROTC and a very vocal proponent of the program. It didn't matter one way or the other, even though there were some people who were not big fans of the program...she left it at the door when she came in to sorority so no one really cared.

It's not like you have to get a crew cut when you participate in ROTC ....the only thing I can think of that would be a problem is if activities conflict and you should be able to work that out. If anyone would think there's something wrong with it, you don't need to be there.

I say go for it. I was in Army ROTC and Rugby when I pledged Beta and I dont see any problem for you as a potential sorority candidate. I think the answer lies in what group you feel most comfortable with and how you can prioritize all of your commitments. School, ROTC, and Sorority. Not so much whether they will accept you or not. I dont remember any girls at my school that were in a sorority and ROTC. Although there were girls that participated in other activities like Sports, Student Government, and Panhellenic. Plus I remember other guys that were greek that were in ROTC. One Sigma Chi in fact. I know down at Virginia Tech we've had Betas that were in the Corp of Cadets. I know that ROTC will be a big plus for you making the sorority of your choice more diverse and well rounded.

I know that in my house we have both members and alphas (not-yet-intiated members)who are in ROTC. Our take on it is that ROTC is a difficult thing to be involved in, and we are proud of the sisters who are involved in it (I know that I couldn't do it!). It is my belief that any house who would look down on a rushee for ROTC is much to shallow for my energy!!

One of my Sisters (a fellow-Founder for our Chapter) came to college on the GI bill, after serving in the military. She supplemented her income and benefits by serving in the Air National Guard. Not exactly ROTC, but similar involvement/committment...it can be done! Best wishes on your college experience!

I am a sorority member and I am a part of Air Force ROTC. I have not had any conflicts yet. Plus, there happen to be several fraternity and sorority members in ROTC.

well here in MD, and some other states like Deleware etc, they have the ROTC fraternity called the PRs and the PA sorority, (Perishing Rifles and Perishing Angels) and they represent to the fulliest, I know they can join other orgs, cause they are honary and service based.
