Talking DreamsComeTrue’s Exceptionally Equestrian Recruitment Story!

Hey everyone!
I decided to post my LIVE recruitment story here on Greek Chat!! I’ll try to give updates once a day, and will do more if I have time…it really depends on my homework schedule and how tired I am after the recruitment events. Since it will be LIVE story I will not go too much in-depth with details just in case some sorority girls from my school could be on GC reading this!

Ok so I will start by telling you a little more about myself. I go to a small sized school with a relatively small Greek system. I was born and raised in a VERY “horsey” town in the south (hence all of the equestrian stuff) and greek life in kind of a big thing in my family and they have been helping me prepare for recruitment for quite a while. Now that I’ve done some research, and read the “stickies” and all the awesome stories on GC, gotten recs taken care of, done community service and activities to boost my resume, and of course planned all my outfits I am SOOOOO EXCITED and I feel like I am totally ready for recruitment! I’ve been so looking forward to it ever since we started school a couple weeks ago!!!!! Despite the fact that I am a legacy to one sorority on campus, and therefore feeling a little pressure from my family to join that chapter…I want to join a sorority more than anything and I am trying my hardest to go into recruitment with an open mind hoping to find the best fit for me, regardless of my family’s affiliations.

Ok so now for the fun part!!! It’s time to assign each chapter a nickname! So, I’ve decided to name them all after horse riding disciplines since equestrian is pretty much my favorite thing ever and I’ve been competing for many years! lol.

Sorority 1: Hunter/Jumper

Sorority 2: Equitation

Sorority 3: Showmanship

Sorority 4: Western

My school runs sorority recruitment a little different than other schools… we had an info session a couple days ago and we got to meet girls from each of the sororities (so I’ll post an update of how that went shortly) but the actual recruitment doesn’t start until Tuesday September 15th so I won’t be posting about the parties until after that. Hopefully everything goes well!!! :}

Well I’m off for now…

Good luck to you!

Yay for horsey theme! I do hunters with my guy and we dabble in equitation so I'm rooting for both, but hunters is my fave

Ditto! Just keep your heels down and your eyes up over your fences. Ooops. I got confused with my advice.

I'll pick Showmanship just because no one else has, and my own discipline (saddleseat) is not an option.

Heyy Everyone,

OMG! So first off I want to say thanks so much for all the good luck wishes!! Also, it’s sooooooo awesome to hear that there are some other equestrians on GC!!!!!!!!!!!!! :]

But mostly I wanted to post about the info session lol. They mainly only talked a lot about last minute signing up for recruitment and basically what to expect… not as informational as I hoped but it definitely got me even more excited about recruitment week!

Then the fun part was that during my school’s “club fair” type event each chapter had representatives to talk to and a table set up that displayed their posters, trophies, t-shirts, and LOTS of pictures.

(This wasn’t an actual recruitment event… so I probably didn’t need to include it in my story… haha! But it was my first chance to get a sneak peek at the sororities before recruitment. yay! lol.)

The first sorority’s display I visited was Western. When I walked over to their table the first thing that came to mind was that I wasn’t really a fan of their colors (sorry, I know it’s superficial lol). I talked to 3 members and mainly they just told me about how excited they were for recruitment, about their house (which sounded awesome!), and they had lots of pictures of their philanthropy on their poster. Overall I thought the girls were very sweet but unfortunately some of the reputation comments I heard from PNMs seemed to be moderately confirmed…but despite that, I am definitely still going to give them a fair chance/consideration when recruitment actually starts!

The second sorority was Hunter/Jumper. There were tons of people crowded around their table so sadly I didn’t really even get to talk to any of the girls…from what little I could see on the poster and pictures they have a BEAUTIFUL house (yes, again I’m being superficial lol)… probably the nicest one on campus. Since I didn’t get to talk to anyone, or get more information/ask questions, I don’t really have an opinion about them going into recruitment…

The third sorority was Showmanship. The most exciting thing about this sorority for me was that there are quite a few members in the same “club sport team” that I plan on joining! I really liked this sorority and I have friends in this chapter at another school so I have heard great things about the organization. I’m definitely excited to learn more during recruitment!

The last (but not least) sorority was Equitation. This booth was also extremely crowded so I only briefly spoke with one of the girls. My favorite thing about this sorority was their philanthropy and how many social events they have. The downside was that the member was inundated with talking to people so I didn’t really get too many of my questions answered. Hopefully I get to know this chapter more during recruitment because I am still very interested in this group.

From what basic information I gathered, at this point I would be really proud to join any of the four sororities… I can’t wait until the real recruitment events actually start! I'm so excited (and nervous)!!

That’s all for now! More updates to come on September 15th!

Am I missing something or did you not post what equestrian discipline you were involved in? It's okay if you don't want to tell but I LOVE meeting other Greek riders I post on COTH (Chronicle of the Horse) as well and found a few greeks on there

Anyways, good luck!
