Hey Active Posters and Lurkers!
I know it's semi shady, but I have created a new username to post this story. I'm not that active, but I think I've written enough things that the schools/chapters I will discuss would be very obvious. I love reading this board, so I decided I would share my little sister's story with everyone! I am super concerned with her anonymity and privacy through this process so I apologize in advance, but I promise to reveal everything at the end - I know how you all love that
There are 3 girls in my family - Both me (oldest) and the middle sister were active sorority members of the same national sorority and feel no preference for the youngest to join our same group. We really just want her to find the best home for her, and we know it might not be where we found our home(s). We may or may not have all gone to the same school (or 2 of 3 go/went to the same).
The littlest sister - We will call her Ashley (the most common name of 1991, when this years frosh were born!! - so young!) goes to a large public university with deferred rush and MANY quality chapters to choose from. Being an overachiever, Ashley is entering college with enough credits to go through informal recruitment this semester, even though she may decide to wait and go through spring.
I'm not biased or anything (LOL) but I think Ashley will do well in the recruitment process. She was active in many clubs, sports, and community religious organizations and is extremely friendly - I'm not worried about her finding things to talk about! I've gotten her recs for many of the houses, even though recruitment is selective, recs really are not that big of a deal on her campus. IMO, she is a cute girl and presents herself well - she has good taste in fashion/accessories.
In the next few days is a large "meet the greeks" type event, where Ashley will get a first look at all the chapters participating in informal recruitment, and based on her first impression, I am going to help her choose with chapter's events to attend. Unfortunately, with the large number of chapters on this campus, it was be extremely difficult to visit every chapter's open house - but I am encouraging to visit as many as possible.
Admittedly, I'm a really nervous older sister so I'd love to hear any advice anyone has for a sibling going through recruitment. I'm trying VERY hard to not let my opinions affect her decision but it's so hard (especially when no matter how neutral I try and stay, I'd love to see her in my sorority!)
Also, if at any point you think you've "figured me out", I'd really appreciate you PMing me or keeping it to yourself. I'm happy to have any conversation or answer questions off the board
Check back shortly for an update after she goes to the large open house event!
