UGA Recruitment
Has anyone heard how things are going in Athens? I am not helping this year and feel so out of the loop.

My boss' daughter is going through recruitment there now, but I haven't heard anything yet. Should be interesting to see if things turn out for her the way her family expect them to.

I had heard that 1220 were registered, but heard from a co-worker today whose daughter is going through that the number is over 1300. My daughter who is an active said it rained on and off today, and they were glad to have the longest part of first round behind them.

Tough year at UGA as usual. Huge cuts Fri night. My friend's daughter went from 7 parties Fri to one pref yesterday. No bid She's pretty upset but she's definitely not alone.

I thought Pref parties were today at UGA? Did she decide not to attend her Pref. party?

I'm confused... I thought today was pref and tomorrow was bid day. Is today bid day at UGA?

Oh - then it must have been no pref invite - her mom only sent a text saying no bid. My misunderstanding! Thanks for clarifying dukedg!

I'm hearing about deep cuts, too. And more stories of girls being cut by their legacy chapters (no surprise) but then being dropped but other chapters.
I know we've beaten this into the ground...but should greek affiliations be left off the panhel form? Should it be up to the individual rushee to let the legacy chapter know on their own (a sort of legacy introduction form).

I'm in favor of leaving the legacy affiliations off the forms, but I also think that people are overstating the role they play in recruitment at the other chapters.
It's a really hard recruitment at UGA because pretty much all the girls going through are so well-qualified, especially compared to previous generations. It's difficult to imagine that your 3.8 high school GPA and your two page resume and recs to all the houses just put you in the middle of the PNM pool.
I know it's popular to assume you got cut because you were a legacy elsewhere, but the chapters themselves have experience to draw on in terms of how many legacies get released by certain chapters. (They also can see that some chapters have more legacies than quota is likely to be.)
I don't think that chapters are releasing girls in the later rounds simply because they are legacies elsewhere. If they really like the PNM, they are going to keep rushing her. I'd be willing to bet that a good percentage of every pledge class at UGA is made up of legacies to other chapters and the chapters know this.

Does that seem kind of low? It does to me and UGA hasn't added any chapters.
ETA: the big recruitment thread says quota last year was 58.
