Question Should Jesse Get Involved?

***I copied this fromt he USA Today site. ***

White House not receptive to Jackson's 'peace' trip

By Richard Benedetto, USA TODAY

WASHINGTON — Jesse Jackson's offer to lead a "peace delegation" to negotiate with Afghanistan's ruling Taliban militia to hand over Osama bin Laden is receiving a cool reception from the Bush administration. But Jackson says he is still considering the trip. "We are waiting for more information," Jackson told CNN on Thursday afternoon. The United States has demanded that the Taliban turn over bin Laden, the suspected mastermind behind the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington on Sept. 11. Secretary of State Colin Powell and White House chief of staff Andy Card said Thursday that Jackson is "free to travel" as a U.S. citizen, but it is unlikely that talks would be productive.

Jesse has been successful in the past with overseas negotiations.

This is only my opinion...

I think it is just a ploy for Jesse to get back into the good graces of the people. I for one think he is wack now. From the article that I read about the US being other there for the past two weeks and having the Navy and everybody else looking of bin Laden...who is Jesse going over there to talk with?? Laden is MIA. I agree, he should just stay home and take care of his baby.

Thumbs down He betta stay is "I am SOMEBODY" behind in the U.S.

I have a really bad feeling about this. The Taliban are EXTREMIST, if not terrorist themselves! What if he goes over there & HE becomes a hostage too..as a way of staying off a military attack from us?? Also, on the radio they said that Jesse's been lying . I guess he'd said that he was invited by the Taliban to go over there, but the Taliban said that they didn't invite him...I don't know, I didn't hear him say that...I understand his motive (to save the christians that are being held there), but I don't see anything good coming out of him going over there.

I agree 100%. My question is why didn't he try to go over there and negotiate the Christians release before 9-11-01? If I'm not mistaken, they were in prison before the terrorist attack. I don't know about this. Like affinity8 said, it seems that this maybe another one of his ploys to get back in good with the public.

I had the opportunity to meet Rev. Jackson a few years ago. He is a wonderful orator and has negotiated deals with other groups and governments in the past.

This time, however, I think he should stay as far away as possible. This is a dangerous situation and deals with a group of people who are unpredictable at best.

This one should stay in the hands of our government.

I don't question his intentions. This is just the wrong situation.

I agree with Affinity8's first statement.

I heard this on the way to work this morning on Tom Joyner. They said that Jesse was on the show yesterday morning and he (Jesse) said that the Taliban wanted him to come and negotiate. Then, it was reported that the Taliban had NOT asked for Jesse, but Jesse had gotten in touch with them.

I think he should stay at home raise baby, safe family or whatever. I do feel he is trying to get in "good" with the people.

Like "Melvin" on Tom said, if you do, go some place that is neutral, like an island. I wouldn't be caught over there right about now!

Someone said that they probably would not do anything to Jesse because he is a man of the cloth. Heck, I don't believer that. I'm sure there were many members of the cloth on those planes, in those towers, in the pentagon. So, what's the point?

I agree with you 110%. Jesse Jackson was on the Tom Joyner show sometime this week and said that he was invited by the Taliban clerics. Today on the show, Tom acknowledged that there is some debate over whether or not he was invited or if he is just inviting himself. But I heard him say on the show (along with Sybil, Jay, Tom and Miss Duprey) that he was invited. Who knows!?!

I think it is a very bad idea for him to go there. At the very least, I can just see this whole thing blowing up in his face, like it hasn't started to already. I don't even want to think about the worse case scenario.

No! Jesse should stay in the US and not compromise the government's stance.

Post Remember Ron Brown

Hello ladies.
I'm pretty skeptical of Rev. Jackson going over there. I keep remembering about how Ron Brown was rising up in ranks in the U.S. gov't when he was "mysteriously" killed in a plane crash.
I have zero trust in this country, who kidnapped and held our people captive for centuries on end. If Jesse did go, this would be the perfect chance for the U.S. to "get rid" of the "meddling" negro for good, blame the Taliban for Jesse's death, and THEN get the American people all riled up chanting, "War, War, War!"
This is a very evil country.
The gov't wasn't too keen about Jesse going over to negotiate and bring those POWs home, either, remember? He took it upon himself but Clinton never did really give Jesse his props, because America loves to go to battle... they would chose the sword over real peace any day.
Until there is 100% confidence of WHO did the attack, and WHERE they are, our people just need to sit tight.

Jesse should have never considered getting involved, since our President has already said that this issue is not up for negotiation. What else was there to talk about?

Jessie stay home

Mr. Jackson should stay home and be quiet his reputation is smeared and he has shown him self to be a hypocrite, we have to forgive him non of us have been perfect, but i think he should work on some humility and leave that mess to Bush and his cabinet.
