Hi all,
After spending time in the "real world" of work, family, etc, after college, I've found that I still really crave the lifetime sisterhood that I originally sought in a sorority. Sadly my original venture - Nu Beta Omicron - wasn't able to withstand the test of time the way I would have liked. I put the blame for that squarely on my shoulders, but I'm glad to see that some of my sisters have found happy homes at other organizations. Attempting alumnae initiation seems like an exhausting process that could ultimately lead to more heartbreak, so I started looking into other options. I had no idea Beta Sigma Phi even existed, but I was so impressed with everything I read! I guess I'm just posting now to put some feelers out and see if it feels like a good fit on my end. If so, perhaps I will try to join this awesome organization! I'm in San Diego, CA, for what it's worth. If there are any sisters in the area who want to say hello I would love the opportunity to get to know you all.

Are my eyes deceiving me? I was a lurker around the time you started your rush thread, but I remember it well.
You know that like 8 years later, GC posters STILL recommend your thread as a really important one to read for those who are interested in starting a new sorority?
It'd be really cool if you could update it (not that I'm begging or anything) Alot of people would be interested in knowing how it turned out

On the last list of chapter ratings, there were 13 chapters in the San Diego area. Contact International to get your name out there and go to the Chat Groups/Forums listed on my site.
Good Luck!

Hello,
I am interested in joining an Online Chapter, but I am not sure how to proceed. I have e-mailed International, but I don't get very specific responses. I was told to follow the instructions on the web site most recently. Would anyone be able to give me specific, step-by-step instructions for how to become a member of an Online Chapter?
I have read that you must be a member of a Land Chapter or a Member at Large, but I am not sure what a Member at Large is. Should I just send in the form I found under "Downloads" and give International my credit card info? Does that make me a member?
Also, I am not sure how to get in touch with the online chapters. I tried to e-mail one chapter I am interested in twice, but both e-mails bounced back (and they were to two different addresses). I left a guestbook comment for another, but have not yet gotten a response.
Thanks!

Member at Large= Member who pays International dues, but has no chapter affiliation.
Land Chapter= Chapter that meets in person.
Online Chapter=Chapter that meets online, members can be from any country
Where did you get the emails to contact Online chapters? The Cyber Council home page
http://www.betajournal.com/cybercouncil.htm
Or the Online Chapter Member app?
http://www.betajournal.com/memberap.htm
Have you contacted Laura Wingfield regarding Online chapters? laura@betasigmaphi.org
On the Online Chapter Member App's site it states
"Online chapters may pledge members directly into their chapters and pledge train those members through online meetings."
I take that to mean that a potential member, such as yourself, can pledge online.

*bump*
corina,
i came out of lurker status and actually created a user name to tell you that i read your older posts when you founded NBO, and like many other people, i was awed and touched by your journey. I am also interested in greek life and have faced disappointments, so I was able to relate to an extent. I hope that you are making advances to the sorority of your choice, and i hope to see a post in the future from you stating that you've finally found the sisterhood you were looking for!

I know this is an old thread, but I too am curious to find out how did it go with your quest to join BSP online? I have just recently become interested in joining a sorority as I didn't go to a 4 year college and other sororities wont let you in otherwise. I have checked into and heard back from two with BSP being one of them. Currently there aren't any chapters closer to me than over an hour away so making monthly meetings in the evenings wouldn't work for. I got a response from an online chapter and she sent me a link to the new member app, but it would process without a member number, chapter name & number. Of course not being a member yet I don't have that info. I previously emailed the membership dept. but the email bounced back and the second one I didn't get a response from. That was when I emailed a contact for one of the online chapters.

Contact International and become a member at large. Once your dues are paid (I believe its no more than $50) They will send you a membership card with your member number on it and I think MAL's (members at large) get a default chapter number of some kind. You could then apply to the online chapter. You might think about friendly venturing (starting) a new chapter thats in your area. I'm not sure of all the logistics on that but you could call International and find out. They might can give you a list of MALs in the area and you could either hold a rush event or an informal social of some kind to find out who's interested and get things going.

Thanks, I think I did it backwards but I am now a member of Beta Sigma Phi. I contacted one of the online chapters, filled out the online app and was invited into that chapter. I think filled out and mailed off the membership app and I got my books and pin in the mail today.
