Christmas seems to get earlier every year...
Anyone else remember the good old days when people would at least wait until Halloween was over before starting in with Christmas stuff?
On my way home from work today, I passed a city bus that was displaying the message "Merry Christmas" along with its route number. Um, Christmas isn't for another TWO MONTHS. I wonder how long it will be before we're putting up next year's Christmas decorations on Dec. 26th.
And why did it have to be "Merry Christmas" ? What's wrong with "Happy Holidays" ? Not everyone celebrates Christmas, you know...!

when i was driving home from ithaca yesterday i saw a house with a bunch of wooden reindeer and other xmas decorations on their lawn..i was just at the mall and they're already setting up for santa..
i've decided that when i rule the world it will be illegal to display xmas decorations before december 1st, punishable by death should the law be violated.

Today as I walked into the mall the maintinence men were finishing putting up the mall decorations for Christmas. It's so weird but yet at the same time not a surprise.
Since I work in the retail business I know we are all thinking ahead. This is the time of the year when we start making layaway sales for Christmas. So I'm not at all surprised that it gets closer and closer every year.
Also, I walked into Yonkers (sorta like Dillards) at the beginning of October and they had their Christmas tree's up already~ now THAT's a little TOO soon!

Well, you all think that is bad? My next door neighbor left her icicle lights up from last year turns them on at least three times a week. Her daughters, who are high schoolers, told me that their mom says that the lights provide for better lighting of their house at night. It is so funny though! Christmas lights during Spring Break, summer and now Halloween.

I swear to you that they're moving all the holidays up. A couple of years ago, I was in Eckerd the day after Christmas and someone was just finishing putting up the Valentine's decorations. And Halloween decorations appear in WalMart in August.

Malls have pretty much always been setting out their christmas decorations as early as September. If they're allocating the space, people must be buying. Can't really fault them for that.

I can see where you guys are coming from but I don't mind it too much. I love Christmas!
Starting in October seems kinda extreme -- they need to give us a chance to look forward to it. But when Nov 1 hits, I am in full on Christmas (or "holiday") mode.
One day, when I'm fabulously independently wealthy, I will spend loads and loads of money on nothing but gifts for other people I love gift giving.
And I love the holiday movies you get to watch. I can't wait to see The Santa Clause 2 when it comes out in the theatres. And it even comes out on Nov. 8 -- perfect timing.

I'm with you Jaggergirl. I am a Christmas freak!
I actually started putting Christmas music on at work yesterday, which pissed my co-workers off, but oh well. It makes me happy, which might be hard to do this week...sigh....Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells...

I love Christmas too!!! But I don't think decorations should be out this early. I will admit I've purchased a couple of Christmas decorations already this year though...whoever said they have a market for it is right...because I certainly wasn't the only person in the store! However, these decorations won't get put out until after Thanksgiving...that's what makes Christmas decorations special is only having them out for a short period of time.
MuAZD...I've had Christmas music on the past couple of days too Only at home, though....some orchestral and then some old time-y vocalists (Sinatra, Clooney, etc). It's been really relaxing. *sigh*
