Oscar-winning actor Karl Malden dies at 97

Karl Malden, one of Hollywood's strongest and most versatile supporting actors, who won an Oscar playing his Broadway-originated role as Mitch in "A Streetcar Named Desire," died today. He was 97.

Malden starred in the 1970s TV series "The Streets of San Francisco" and was the longtime American Express traveler's-check spokesman, warning travelers to not leave home without it. He died of natural causes at his home in Brentwood, said his daughter Mila Doerner.

a plain actor with a bulbous nose who made good. how cool is this and had his oscar to prove it. it seems that all of the great actors are dying off. sad.

I never would have thought he was 97. He definitely lived a full life. Loved him in Streets of San Francisco.

I liked Karl Malden because I used to watch "Streets" with my eldest sister, in reruns of course because it was never on when I was alive. We're total dorks because we'd notice stuff they did wrong (which was useful in the third grade, San Francisco was the history module) and get excited when we saw houses or buildings from the show. Let's just say we were thrilled when we found out our new step father had worked on the show.

Best episode ever was the one with Arnold Schwarzenegger where he's a body builder and his best line was "I'm not a freak, I'm not a freak for you to laugh at!" and attacks someone. Here's part of that episode http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSCBwczZ2gY thanks YouTube!

My favorite was the on where John Davidson from That's Incredible played a killer transvestite. In this clip he's not in drag but talking to his alternate personality:

Oh yeah, that's amazing. I kill trash!!!!

There's another one where someone is a hoarder and has the giant stacks of newspaper that become a maze. It always freaked me out.
