First use of Q for letter Omega?
I'm trying to research when the letter Q was first used at HBCUs to represent the letter Omega. This is almost certainly the same as trying find out when Omega Psi Phi itself used Que as an abbrevation, but I'd like to find out both when it was first used for Omega Psi Phi and whether the abbrevation came from inside the Fraternity itself or was first used by others (perhaps originally derogatorily?)
I'm not looking for a specific day or year (though that would be extraordinary). Comments like "it was in regular use by the 1950s" would be helpful..
Thank You

Yup, crickets, but still hoping for an answer. I figured this was the place to ask.

Nah dude. You will NOT get an answer on this board from a Que, trust and believe.

You seem to be pretty invested in the Omega forum.

Anyway brother, I think we've spoken about this offline (at Cheesecake Factory?), but I think Black Greek 101 will be your best resource. As you know, a lot of BGLO traditions can't be traced to even a specific decade because of the lack of research and the reliance on oral history.

BlackGreek 101 is a good resource but some of the info is slightly off. The standard reason given is good enough for public consumption.
Also Sensuret, your frat brother Wal;ter Kimbrough is a great disseminator of mis-information. I saw him do an interview in which he stated the Omegas have no particular reason for some of our traditions, etc, as if he was the arbiter of such knowledge.
Oh yeah, the question, "Q" is just a letter until you become one.

Did that comment strike you as odd? Or was it just me.

This is one of the longest nonanswers ever.
If you wouldn't post the "standard reason" then why not just say it's either none of his business or "do your own research?"

Not only odd..... but several posters are misinterpreting the question.
Ain't nobody asking what Que means.

Right.
To reiterate:
The question is when did the Omegas start using "Q" as in "Q Psi Phi." There are HBCU chapters of APO that use A-Phi-Q and I think the why has been discussed on here before.

Exactly.
I am *not* asking WHY Omega Phi Phi does it. I am asking WHEN. If someone mentions a why, that is fine and interesting, but not the original question
Yes, I would also like to know when the historically black chapters of Alpha Phi Omega started being refered to by A Phi Q however, first, this isn't the board to ask that, and second, I would be absolutely flabbergasted if the Alpha Phi Omega chapters did it first. Omega Psi Phi was about 35 years old when the first Alpha Phi Omega chapter at an HBCU was founded.
