Once upon a time, there lived two friends named Mandy and Mary. Mandy was an idealist, the eternal optimist. Mary disliked everyone and everything except Mandy. The two balanced each other out nicely. One day while out for a jog, they heard a faint cry from a house that had been abandoned for years...

Mary the misanthrope, as she was known among friends, looked briefly towards the house, but did not slow her stride. Probably some idiot getting just what they deserve, she thought.

...bread baking. With her curiosity piqued, she quietly entered the doorway. Imagine her surprise to see a young woman peeking into the dusty stove. Sitting at the dingy-clothed, cobwebbed table was a handsome man playing with a baby. The child let out another squeal of delight. Mandy gasped in surprise. The woman at the stove quickly looked toward the sound...
