I'm looking forward to it........
I saw the article on BET.com this week. It might feel a litle spooky knowing those were in fact some of her last hours on earth.

I am looking forward to seeing this also.
But, I wonder what took BET so long to air this special. I understand that the video was not finished and that things needed to be edited, but still this has been quite a long time. This should have been aired weeks ago, in my opinion.
Honestly, since the tragedy, most people's attention has moved from the death of this talented, young woman to America's new war. If MTV had been the station with the behind the scenes footage, I'm pretty sure that they would have shown it several times by now.

I think it had to be decided IF and WHEN the video would premiere. It was up to the record company and parents if they would release the video.
The guy who shot the access said on BET after the incident that he wasn't sure what was going to happen. I think it is respectable and commendable that they did wait.
I don't think MTV would have aired it; however, I could be wrong.

Very good All Access Aaliyah
Hello all! I'm usually a silent monitor but I just had to take the time to comment on Aaliyah and the Rock the Boat premiere...not only is the song tight but the video was even better. It's sad that we will not get to see anymore creativity from Aaliyah in the future, she was truly an exceptional artist...
on another note...the show afterwards is what I'm trippin' off of. BET's "How I'm Livin'"...why do they always follow the life of strippers and porn stars?? The 2 times that I did watch the show this is what they had..I'm like, who cares?? I've never seen or heard of these girls ever in my life, nor do I care to see how they are living...anyone else feel me on this??

i'm kinda iffy
i love the song "rock the boat," but i didn't take an immediate liking to the video. i wonder if it came out the way the producers wanted it to before the tradgedy.
some stuff was just a little weird to me. for example, i wonder if the beginning where she walks across the beach and up to the camera was originally going to be part of the video.
also, the ending where she is floating in the water and there was no music was kind of eerie.
and did ya'll notice how close her and her dancers danced? whoa!

MeezDiscreet: I thought they were dancing a little close too. I liked the video though, especially the end. I thought she looked like an angel.
MissKriss01: My exact thoughts on How I'm Livin'. They may need to air that in a different time slot if they are gonna keep profiling porn-stars. Yuck!
Aaliyah's story will also premiere on Behind the Music this Sunday.

I thought I was the only one who didn't really like the video. To me, it doesn't look like an Aaliyah video. Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't most of her videos dark?
I did like how she was floating up at the end, kind of like an angel floating to heaven.
I don't think that is how the video would have ended up if she was still alive...doesn't seem like something that she would do, and it DEFINITELY doesn't look like a Hype Williams video, at least to me.
On another note, why did BET decide to make a show on how a porn star was living? I was totally disgusted. They could have kept that one in the can.

I liked the video and the song as well. I did think that she and her dancers were getting a little on the risque side. But, that's just me.
As for How I'm Livin, I am totally disgusted that they would profile porno stars and strippers and that they air it at 8:30 in the evening. There are still children awake and watching television. I hate the message that it sends. Basically, it tells young black girls that to get the material things that they want, they need to take off their clothes.
What I would enjoy seeing would be the homes of successful blacks who are not entertainers, like Johnny Cochran.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't they finished with the video? Aaliyah stated they had only three days to shoot, so from my understanding the only thing that needed to be completed for the video was the computer posting of images for the scenes shot in front of the green screen. Something about the video wasn't right though. In the very beginning where she walked in front of the camera didn't fit the video in my opinion. But I agree with you Pretty, it didn't have the same Hype Williams vibe to me. It looked like the original plan was changed somewhat because it really didn't flow. ....as if scenes were cut and pasted.

ROCKIN THA BOAT!
Dang ya'll. If you saw her brother on 106 today, he says that the image of her floating was like that of an angel.
If you saw the All access last night, you would hear Fatima (the choreographer) say that Aaliyah is able to bring to life her images through the moves. Aaliyah is the only one that could do that. Maybe Fatima is on the risque' side?
Anyway, that song is tha Jam!
Now, didn't she (Aaliyah) have ANOTHER video that she already had completed before Rock Tha Boat?
It's funny to see how they did the dance (Rock tha Boat), compared to how peeps do it here.
The video was aight. I didn't look at it like you all did. I guess I'll pay more attention next time!

I enjoyed the Rock the Boat video. I thought Aaliyah looked great. I agree that her previous videos were on the dark side, but I think that they made a conscious decision (prior to her death) to do something different, especially since they filmed the video on a tropical island in broad daylight. But, they did incorporate her traditional dance scenes, and her usual close-ups. And the tidal wave dance scene was typical Hype Williams. It made me a little sad to watch the making of the video, because I knew that the individuals working on the video did not have a clue that it would be their last days on earth. They looked so happy. The last scene of her ascending in the water was a very nice touch.
As for BET, all I want to know is "What is wrong with them?!" How do you promote a video of a relatively clean-cut performer like Aaliyah, knowing that there is going to be a HUGE number of viewers (YOUNG viewers) watching, and then air a program that highlights the career of a porn star? I was (and I still am) thoroughly disgusted. Do we really want our youths to equate "living large" with women using their bodies to make money or men who think that their status in life increases by how much platinum they have in their mouths, "bling-bling" they wear, how many bottles of Cristal they drink a day, or how many cars and motorcycles they own? I think not!
