JP,
I'm sorry to hear about the continuing problems with the house. Construction was started in the spring of 1926 - if I'm reading it right, on the enlarged foundation of the Phi Gamma Delta house. Not sure if it was simply the same site, or if they actually used the existing foundation as part of the new LCA house. In other words, part of the foundation may be older than the present house itself. The chapter moved in during Homecoming in the fall of 1926.
Since the lease runs out in 2016, it appears the school gave Beta a 90 year lease. With only seven years to go, I would think it would be necessary to secure a commitment for another long-term lease before the house corporation could get a loan to make the necessary repairs.
It is truly a grand house, and assuming it is otherwise structurally sound, I hope that with a strong, well-organized, house corporation and alumni support, it can be saved.
In ZAX,
Jono
