Recommendation Basics

I'm am so thrilled to be going to SMU, but I have a few questions about recommendations for sororities. Is there a limit to how many we can have per sorority? I have had three people offer to write me rec's for just one sorority, and they are all great people, but I do not want to bombard the sorority. At SMU it is deferred rush, when should the rec's be mailed by? One for two different sororities are being sent out next week... is that too early? Also do they have to send a picture of me with the rec?

If anyone has rushed at SMU in the past I would love to hear about your experience and the timetable you prepared for Rush (rec's being mailed, registering, etc).

One last thing... what is a rush packet??

Thanks so much!!! I cannot wait to rush!!

*There's no limit to the number of recs you can have for each sorority, but 2-3 per sorority is the standard. If you happen to have more, that's great.

As far as mailing them, most schools like to have them as early as possible.

Yes, you should include a picture for each rec.

And rush packet usually refers to the information packet sent out by the college panhellenic to all PNMs. What context did you read/hear it in?

Get your recs sent to the chapters before school starts in the fall, or soon there-after. The houses work on recruitment all fall, so if your information is there, it will be seen, if it's not, you may get lost in the shuffle come spring.

A rush packet is the information and photos sent to the chapters through your recommender (so you need to send all this to whoever is writing your main rec). It is comprised of the recommedation form, photos, resume, letters of support, and transcript (if the sorority wants it - mine doesn't, but some do).

I rushed at SMU back in "the day" , but things haven't changed that much according to my sources!
