Sigma Chi Derby Days

Yaay! This week is SigChi Derby Days at MTSU! ZTA is SOOO going to win the decorating the SigChi House cuz we had TONS of glittery posters, balloons, etc.
We hung these like 15ft long banners that said "Zeta" "Tau" and "Alpha" vertically and had crowns on them from their columns at the front of the house. We wrote with sidewalk chalk "Zetas LOVE Sigma Chi" everywhere. We wrapped turquoise streamers around their cross, put a crown on top of it, wrote on the sidewalk "Only the Best get Crowned", and put our giant Z and A on either side of the cross, so the cross looks like the T in ZTA. YAAAAY. One of the banners I made converted the song "A Man without a Zeta" to "A Sigma Chi without a Zeta" and I sang it to them! The LOVED it! When you drive by Greek Row there now, you see SigChi transformed into ZETA HEAVEN! haha!
Well anyhow...

Does anyone else do any kind of Derby Days events??? There are different competitions all week, including Go Cart racing, Putt-Putt competition, Derby Darlin' Pageant, parties, etc, and it's all to raise $$$ for the Children's Miracle Network. Awww! If we win overall Derby Days, we get a BIG@$$ trophy (it's like almost 5ft tall!). Tee-hee.

Hey Jessica! We did Derby Days at Elon and I always remember that we couldn't decorate the house till AFTER midnight on the first day of Derby Days and it was during January, so we were FREEZING and we had to keep running back to our house(we lived next door to Sigma Chi) and re warming! But it was always so much fun. And I think ZTA at my school won most years, so I hope you keep up that tradition!

Yaay! Thanks AOPi! Hey SparklliQ---My artwork on that includes the chalk writing on the far left column, the cardboard poster to the right of the ZCrossA (the one that has bunny ears above the Zeta Tau Alpha with a crown & strawberry), and TONS of the other posters. All the cardboard was mine from the back of posters I have in my room. I was up till midnight Sunday making that stuff, then we decorated last night at 7pm. We put glitter on so much stuff LOL! One of my sisters made a sign (it's on the inside) that says "Sigma Chis are Dead Sexy. -ZTA" LOL! They're so lovin' it! Then I wrote (among other things) on the sidewalk, "Zetas think Sigma Chis are HOT!" LOL

Yes, I will be at every Derby Day event this week, including the parties Friday & Saturday. You should come out to Go USA for the gocart races Thursday night. I'm racing for ZTA! yaay! (like five of us are racing for ZTA). On Thursday during the day, we're also having people "arrested" (by the actual police) and taken to the Sigma Chi "jail". They then have to be bailed out, and the bail money goes to the Children's Miracle Network. They're setting bail from like $50-$100 per person! It will be so funny!

ZTA usually wins at my school too. Last year was the first time in a while that we hadn't won. AZD one Derby Days but one of sisters won Derby Day Queen or something like that.

I'll tell you something, for one reason everyone here at UNL hate Derby Days except for Sigma Chi. I haven't talked to a single girl that enjoyed it. All the guys hate it b/c of course you ladies are too busy to do anything with us.

But at least it is for a good cause.

My senior year, Pitt's Sigma Chi chapter was looking to drum up more interest in Derby Days and so they started something called "Sig-n-Dales". You guessed it, they charged admission to watch the brothers throw a Chippendales-type show. It was actually a lot of fun since so many of the brothers were exceedingly easy on the eye :-)

I had figured that 12 years of political correctness would have long ago put a damper on Sig-n-Dales but another GC'er who is still a student at Pitt informed me recently that the show still goes on and last year one of the brothers got really into it and pulled a Full Monty! And, hey, it's all for a good cause
