Chapter Developments?

I am now the Vice President for my chapter and in charge of running our chapter development meetings (3 a month with 1 business meeting)

Everyone gets tired of the same old thing at meetings... games, slide show presentations, yuck.

Any new cool ideas for how to entertain/inform/cultivate my chapter?
Thanks!

Some general ideas:

- Make CD more interactive and relaxed than the formal business chapter meetings as often as possible, but whether they are fun or serious, make sure that the time is used WISELY!

- You might choose not to disclose the topic/activity until the meeting begins each week, giving CD a certain air of anticipation.

- Utilize CD time in whatever way that time is most needed (recruitment workshops might be one, creating signs for intramurals and philanthropies might be another, writing fundraising letters to parents/alumnae...)

- Bring in supplemental speakers on important topics like hazing, alcohol awareness, self-defense instruction.

- Utilize CD for "fun" learning as well, such as a yoga class, a consultant from a spa or makeup counter, etiquette instruction, or making your own iron-on letter shirts and bags.

- Ask alumnae to come in and give a presentation. It could be a talk about their professions, something fun like a craft, or simply an opportunity to learn "retro" cheers and songs.

Chapter Development

We did a few really fun things...

1.) One of the sisters was a Mary Kay consultant so, she invited her boss from MK and we had a facial, spa type thing with the option to buy MK and part of the proceeds from selling Mary Kay went to Children's Miracle Network...

2.) We got crafty things to do like painting hats, wooden jewelry boxes, etc.

3.) Once (I think this was for CD) we invited Tri-Sigma and I think ADPi over to our suite for a --- toy party...it was funny and girls could go in the back (one at a time) to order from the representative...

4.) Speakers are great, as well...

5.) Once again, going back to making money for CMN, our former Philanthropy Chair (my lil' sis) worked it out with a local massage therapist to help us raise money for CMN. We all got discounted massages (at the Massage Therapy spa) and about 10% of the proceeds went to CMN. My lil' sis bought a fruit tray for the sisters waiting in the lobby as other girls got their massage in the back. It was fun, we raised money and it was def. a chapter development.

6.) I'm not sure if they made it a Chapter Development when Alexandra Robbins (author of "Pledged") came to campus and we all met in the auditorium but, it was mandatory for our chapter to go (along with everyone else's chapter to send so many people)...

txPHIMU,

Are you attending the upcoming leadership conference? Your chapter will get a TON of ideas there during that training weekend.

thanks for all the great ideas!
yes I'll be attending leadership conference in Memphis February 13-16 and I'm so excited. I was Membership Director previously and for the first time ever we made quota and doubled our chapter so I just want everything to go so well!

You do realize that national officers, and I'm sure Robin herself, read these threads right? I'm sure they'd be less than thrilled with your number three. Did your chapter actually put that in the paperwork that goes to nationals?

I had cut out squares of clothe for each sister...They painted on them what they brought to Phi Mu and put their names small with the phi class. Each year we are going to add more squares as we get more girls...Its a really cool way to bring everyone together...i sewed them all together and we are going to use them on one of the walls for recruitment.

We also had a "Make your own Sundae night" where everyone brought ice cream or a topping...we played a game that we got at the national meeting where you said a phrase of a show quote and people guessed what show it came off of....they all love it
