Profiling

What do you guys think about race profiling? This is a debate that has come up.

I'm against it because it is just another way for the authority to be lazy. Beside, if I'm either a drug runner or a terrorist, I would be inclined to pick people that does't fit the race profile.

Another thing to consider, the Custom Office last year stop doing race profiling and started real inteligence work. They stop less people, but was able to arrest more people and prevent more drugs.

Profiling new or old?

While I cannot speak for people today or before my time, eons ago, as a police officer, I did not stop people because of color, I stopped them for a vialation. Or as I used to call it being stupid!

The first night of the Accadamey, I was told, "All you will see is the bad people or the good people that the bad did to"! God how was that so true!!!!

The other thing we were told, all you want is have a badge and a gun! GRRRRR!, being related to You Know Who, I was Pissed!

People do silly things and think it is not their fault as in the case everytime I stopped some one!
I stopped a guy for running a red light with me sitting there. He said he didnt and wanted to argue with his wife and two little girls in the car. I very politely told him do it my way and put a lock on it or I would tow his car arrest him and leave his family on the side of the road!

He finally saw it my way and went his way with no ticket!

Next time I went in Ky Lt. asked if I had stopped so and so. I said yep!

He told my Lt. that if I was indicative of our PD we had a hellava PD.
God was i suprised, it dont happen very often, but maybe I made him think and save their lives down the road.

Damn I hated writing tickets, ment court time! Tickets cost money and is to harde to come by!!!!!!!

Hell just fell on andoff the soap bar! TTFN !!!!!!!

Well, the problem exists in that, if you find more people of a certain catagory doing certain crimes, is it because you're specifically looking for these people? ie if we started profiling whites, would crime numbers suddenly become more in line with the racial distribution in the US? (ie a smaller percentage of crimes alledgedly perpetrated by those of minority status . . . )

the answer is, of course, 'no', because there are a variety of factors leading to the racial distribution of criminals (opportunity, wealth, education, etc) - but it's an interesting thought, because i'm sure the numbers would definitely at least start moving toward a more equal distribution compared with overall race distributions . . .
