To celebrate the upcoming inauguration of Barack Obama, Marvel is proud to present an all-new story teaming up one of the world's most recognizable political figures with the world's greatest super hero as President-Elect Obama joins Spider-Man in "Spidey Meets the President!"

Written by Zeb Wells with art by Todd Nauck and Frank D'Armata, the story takes place in Washington, D.C. on Inauguration Day and finds one

of Spider-Man's oldest foes attempting to thwart the swearing in ceremony of the 44th President of the United States.

Fans can read it in its entirety in Marvel Comics' AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #583, available in comic book shops nationwide on January 14th, 2009. Look for the special variant cover by artist Phil Jimenez featuring the President-Elect and Spider-Man!

"When we heard that President-Elect Obama is a collector of Spider-Man comics, we knew that these two historic figures had to meet in our comics' Marvel Universe," says Marvel's Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada. "Historic moments such as this one can be reflected in our comics because the Marvel Universe is set in the real world. A Spider-Man fan moving into the Oval Office is an event that must be commemorated in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man."

I won't look for it, but if I see it, I'll purchase about 10 of them and sell them on ebay. $$$$$$$

I would hold on to 2 copies, sell 'em 10 or 20 years later. good investment for the future.

I will make a deal with you 2....I have a shop that I am going to tomorrow...if you want a copy, and if I can wing it to get extras, I will gladly sell it to you at cover value and mail it out to you.

Got some bad news for you moe....the 1st edition covers are gone. The only way you can get one and JUST one was to have a subscription....I went over to the shop in Georgetown and here is pretty much what happened.

So I go and luckily I was 3rd in line

When the doors open at 11am it was close to 30 people in line.

NO OBAMA COVERS, just the REGULAR covers.

ONE per customer BUT the Obama story is contained in the book.

They won't get the Obama cover in until sometime next week and because I live in DC with the inauguration and all, we may get delayed til Friday.

Not to mention when those come in it will be a 2nd printing (if you still want that because that one may also be in short supply I will be more than happy to get one for you) and may not be worth as much as the 1st edition that was released today.

It really doesn't matter which edition I get, I just want a few copies of any kind. Either one will be a great investment.

well..coming from a comic collector, it really depends on how you want to look at it.

For one, Supes' death was a gimmick to boost sales for a comic whose sales were lagging in the 90's as well as batman getting his back broken. You just knew that some how DC wouldn't let Superman, their flagship chracter stay dead but just the idea of his death looking so final was enough to get people out to buy the books.

I, myself have 2 copies of the books and they hold pretty well in value.

As for this book, these may be more valuable in the long run as

a) the story has nothing to do with impacting the Marvel Universe
b) These are in very short print whereas the Superman comic was not.
c) Obama's presidency may or may not also increase the value on the book

The big deal is there has never been a comic by a major comic company in recent history dedicated to a president, but at the same time we are talking about Barack Obama also.

So for what it's worth it's a big deal

No worry, I already bought it from one my brothers. Paid good money for it too.

As a former comic book collector, I agree that this is the main reason this is a "big deal." And the fact that it is in limited print increases demand.

In the comic world overall, it isn't that big of a deal.

Agree 100%, the limited print will cause the bidding war to start.

Those in sales may disagree with you.

Apparently talking to the guys in my shop, there was a DC Comic that's been delayed that finally got back on track and since it was coming out today it was to be the big seller BUT since the Obama comic came out, it trumped that book.

I am curious to see how the sales reports will look at the end of the month for this book and Marvel.
