Olmert Says He Made Rice Change Vote

This is an interesting twist

Quote:
WASHINGTON — In an unusually public rebuke, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert of Israel said Monday that Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice had been forced to abstain from a United Nations resolution on Gaza that she helped draft, after Mr. Olmert placed a phone call to President Bush.

Dunno if it's true or not, since Washington flatly denied it. However, it's a very balsy move for Olmest to boast about it. Is he flexing his muscle to Obama, saying that he has the power to change US vote in the UN?

He's not flexing toward Obama - he's flexing toward the upcoming Israeli elections. Actually, you could argue that the timing and structure of the entire Gaza offensive has been a literal affront to Netanyahu and the upcoming election cycle.

I think it's to bolster Litvi position on the upcomming election. It does make sense, but it's a very very stupid move. Usually, when a country make a wrong statement about another country, the offended party ask the offender to clarify. In this case, Washington has denied it, but never asked Tel Aviv to clarify. I wonder if there are some truth to what he said.

It didn't make sense that Rice abstain from the vote. After all, she was the one that crafted it. And her rationale was piss poor, since she did crafted the resolution.
