Talking Daynights

Does anybody still have daynights? Does anybody know what they are? We used to have them, but can't anymore. Just curious as to what chapters and campuses have had daynights in the past.

A daynight is an event in which a fraternity and a sorority switch pledges for the day. You start (from when I was a soror pledge) by going to the fraternity house a 6am, making them breakfast. Then you get to run around the house banging pots and pans to wake them up. You ask a guy to be your big bro, and spend the whole day with him. There's usually lots of different activities throughout the day for the little sisters and brothers. A lot of it revolves around doing whatever that chapter would normally do with their plegdes. You learn some of their songs, and sometimes do little mock pledge books. Then, that night, everybody gets back together and there's a huge party. It's called a daynight because it goes all day and all night.

Has anybody had anything like this?

sounds smokin' cool....but unfortunately, I can't think of any national sorority that would allow it.

Unfortunately I think something like that is considered hazing anymore Maybe I'm wrong, but I know we can't do something like that.

A friend of mine in a fraternity confided in me that they do something like that. They call it cross pledging. They don't exactly switch pledges, but they combine them. However, this is VERY secret and VERY illegal, so I would never disclose which frats/sororities he was referring to. But it is done underground.

The GLOs at my school had "switch" parties (essentially, mixers) during pledging. They rotated each week so that every fraternity would "switch" with every sorority. (Or almost every other GLO, depending on your chapter).

The day after a switch party, the pledges would wear the other GLO's letters (so the sorority sisters would give the fraternity pledges a T-shirt or sweatshirt with letters and vice-versa). *Of course, the pledges would return the shirt a few days later.*

The idea was to let the pledges get to know all of the GLOs on campus a little better. But they never "switched" pledges, just the letters.

Yes the fraternity pledges get big sisters too.

And yes, this is now not allowed on our campus. Mine was the last pledge class to have it on campus. I didn't think that anything I went through was hazing, and I really wish our newer girls had an opportunity to partake in daynights. I think it gave me a chance to get closer with my big brothers. I went through three daynights (on the pledge end of it). I had a ball at all them, and I just kinda missed having them. We're trying to bring them back currently, but haven't figured out how yet. We are the only sorority on campus that can have them, and that's cause we're local, but all of our fraternities on campus are national, and none of them are allowed to have them.

Hey AmyCat, amen to that! I wish I had pledged earlier in my college career so that I could've experienced more!

This is considered hazing, but I know chapters who do it. Unfortunately, at my school, a frat and sorority did it, and the frat ended up torturing the poor new members by throwing food at them, making them drink beer, hosing them down, blowing pot smoke in their faces, and then kicking them out of their house. Needless to say, it didn't go over well.

We just did something similar with daynights. This morning, we came to AGD's house and had "Wake Up Function", as we banging pots and pans, and we brought our locomotive bells and rang it in their cold airs ...

After that, we were having donughts and juice ... no hard feeling!
