Actives complaining about our pledge class
I'm kinda at a loss here
We had a pledge education meeting tonight and at the end our pledge educator said that some of the actives had talked to other actives telling them to tell our pledge educator that we, as a pledge class, are having somewhat of an easy time. Apparently some of the actives feel that we arent' respecting them or beta in an appropriate way, nor are we being nearly as hard enough on ourselves as we should.
Some of the strife is coming from our choice of punishment if a certain portion of our pledge class fails song and lore tests (we've had two song tests--we all passed-- and we just got our son of the stars book today--so no lore tests). In the past they have done "Breakfast Club" where the pledges get up at 6 and sit in the dining room until their first class studying lore and songs. We were given the opportunity to choose our own program, and we said that if more than 3 brothers fail we had another hour to the study hours we already have on tuesday and wednesday (3 each night) which would be devoted to songs and lore. I personally see the breakfast club as a deconstructive measure, one that would affect classwork later on in the day. And yet I dont' want the actives to harbor these opinions that we got through easy and that we are disrespectful.
As for some of the disrespect issues I don't know what they are b/c no one seems to be able to give examples but the question becomes when does friendly joking around cross the line to disrespect. So much of this is confusing.
Basically, my question is what can we do as a pledge class do to prove our worth, while not totally conceding our self goverance. Obviously we are willing to do as much as possible to make sure we earn our pin and I can honestly say that we all are curious, we all want to know what it truely means to be a Beta.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
