The Obameter
http://politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/
Seems legit. Never seen this till today so If I'm late for the bus here....sorry. About 500 or so promises have been researched and submitted.
For my line of work I'm anxious to see if these pan out:
No. 441: Reduce oil consumption by 35 percent by 2030
Will "reduce oil consumption overall by at least 35 percent, or 10 million barrels of oil, by 2030."
No. 446: Enact windfall profits tax for oil companies
"Will require oil companies to take a reasonable share of their record-breaking windfall profits and use it to provide direct relief worth $500 for an individual and $1,000 for a married couple. The relief would be delivered as quickly as possible to help families cope with the rising price of gasoline, food and other necessities. The rebates would be fully paid for with five years of a windfall profits tax on record oil company profits."
No. 450: Require drilling on current oil and gas leases
"A "Use it or Lose It" Approach to Existing Leases. Oil companies have access to 68 million acres of land, over 40 million offshore, which they are not drilling on. Drilling in open areas could significantly increase domestic oil and gas production. Barack Obama and Joe Biden will require oil companies to diligently develop these leases or turn them over so that another company can develop them."
No. 451: Expedite oil and gas drilling from domestic shale formations
Will "speed up the process of recovering oil and gas resources in shale formations in Montana and North Dakota; Texas and Arkansas and in parts of the West and Central Gulf of Mexico."
No. 454: Build natural gas pipeline from Alaska
"Will work with the Canadian government, state of Alaska, oil and gas producers, and other stakeholders to facilitate construction of the pipeline. Not only is this pipeline critical to our energy security, it will create thousands of new jobs."

In the current climate with oil back down under $35/barrel, these things are just ludicrous except for the pipeline.

People I worked with last summer made serious bank working on the pipeline project. If I didn't already have a job with benefits I'd go do the survey work and live like a dirty hippie to make more fun money.

It's under $35/barrel now. It won't be later.

Nope. Probably should anticipate spikes in a few months.
Even if it doesn't go up exponentially, a decent amount will be great for oil and gas companies. We, for example, would like oil and natural gas to be around 80$ and 8$ respectively in order for us to function like we were before the "crash".

Target at $25/barrell. Making good money short selling.

Maybe, but with those exploration mandates, oil companies would be forced to flood the market with product which in many cases costs more to deliver to market than can be possibly profitable. For example, the last time I heard a serious discussion about shale mining, it was said that it would cost about $37/barrel to get out of the ground.
We do have a crapton of shale oil, but there's really no need to develop that resource while there are so many cheaper places to be drilling.

I was just thinking it'd be nice if my National Fuel stock shot up - but of course I'd have to use my dividends to pay my gas bill!

Ah, we have electric, so I wouldn't have to worry about that part.

I don't know where I've been, but this is the first time I think I've seen this unit of measurement, and it cracked me up.
