Opinions Please

Greetings Sorors sisterfriends, and Fellow greeks. I just want an opinion about a situation that happened at my school. Tuesday, we had an event called Unity Day. Everyone was excused from thier classes from 11:45-12:30 p.m. and we met in the Grand Ball room, and had a BEAUTIFUL ceremony, honoring the people that risked their lives in this tragedy, and we said a prayer for the family that have lost loved ones. My choir sung (American the Beautiful, God Bless America, Let there be Peace on Earth, and the Star Spangle Banner) We also said the Pledge of Alligiance, and the President of our university, asked us to bow our heads in silence to honor those who lost thier lives. Then he said this Beautiful prayer, and we decorated the yard with Flowers, and with 50 (small) American flags. O.k. now to my question. The President of out Student body, got up and said some encourageing words, that made us think. He said that what a shame that this event had to happen to bring Americans (Black white, hispanic, asian, ect) together. He also led us with a word of prayer. After this Beautiful Heart felt ceremony, we were dismissed, and this African American Freshmen stepped up to the mike, and said that " Although this was a horrible tragedy that United Sates had to experience, that this could be a sign from God for those of us who need to get thier lives together. He further went on by saying that he understands that we are all from different religions, and different faiths, but whatever God we serve, we need. to become right with our God, and to honor and serve him, because you never know when you are going to depart from this Earth. Then out of No where, a Guy started Shouting Go HOME and some other things in his Language, then another Guy joined in saying the same thing in his Language. It really left a BAD taste in your mouth. Next thing I know the president of the university, rushes over and grabs the Microphone out of his hands.

now I understand that everyone doesn't serve the same God, but I just want your opinion. do you think this was neccessary. or needed? I mean, we just finished PRAYING, Singing GOD bless america, and saying the pledge of All. which has "ONE NATION UNDER GOD"..... and they didn't have ANYTHING to say, but as soon as a STUDENT gets up and says what I feel GOD led him to say, he gets rediculed. To top it all off, after the ceremony, I went straight to chior and my chior teacher (who's white, and by the way I am the only African American in the Class) thought that his comment was out of line, and he feels that there is a time a place for everything. I came back at him by saying that "Jesus was talked about and rediculed EVERYTIME he preached the Gospel, and you can believe that he didin't only speak the Gospel in church. He just looked at me like I lost my mind (b/c in class I am the quiet one, and I don't EVER say ANYTHING) and contunied with rehearsal.

What do you think about this situations?

Sorry So long. I guess you can say that I am venting.

I feel that the other students were out of line. The person at the mic had a right to his opinion, as long as he wasn't ridiculing or demeaning anyone. However, the students that shouted "Go Home" were being demeaning and insulting.

Did the adminitrators express this? That the young man had a right to his opinion? It's sad because little do they realize that this is partly why this is happening ~ this country has managed to take God out of everything, and choose to use Him when it's convenient. When they sang "God Bless America," who exactly were they asking for blessings from? Too many people simply sing songs without really listening to the words.

Proud to be an American?

Were the students who lashed out at the young man, Foreign Americans? That is irrelevant, but I want to know. I think there is a time and place to express your emotions, but there is also a certain way you should express them. It was not necessary for those guys to ridicule that young man. I think it is sad, that America is now coming together in such a tragic manner, we should have been together long before this took place. We are know that this sort of thing would happen, but we just didn't know when. Our Bible tells us that wars will occur. This is not the end, God said it is only the beginning of what is yet to come.
Everyone is going on around stating they are proud to be American, but right now, I have mixed emotions about that. 1) Why are we lashing out at Muslims for this tragedy? There was a killiing of a Muslim man, by an American because of ethnic/racial background!! What is the point of this? Everyone states we shall not be defeated, but we are killing innocent people here. True enough, they killed innocent people as well, but does that make it right for us to follow in their tragic footsteps? I have so many emotions about this right now, but I don't let it get to me, because I have taken them to the Lord and gave him my burdens and he has eased my heart. Everyone should do this, take it to God, Allah, etc. whomever your supreme being is! Sorry, this is such a long post, but I had to get this out of my system.

SF Love

Sorors and sisterfriends

I have many/ and have felt many emotions and opinions surrounding the events of last week.

First to answer your question yes I feel it was wrong for them to tell the speaker to go home. If that be the case everyone here except the native americans should go home(please don't hate on me we are all entitled to our opinions)

Second the events of last week are emotional to everyone. But it was a wake up call for us as americans.

Third although people are saying we stand together as americans. America is still very racist and divided.

Fourth I hope we are sure before we make a move against anyone.
My fear being retired military and a chemical wepons specialist is that we know without a doubt what we are saying and doing. Because this war will not be about dropping bombs. Everyone is talking about nuclear weapons, but chemical/biological weapons are just as deadly.

DableST_1, I feel that people who do not have nor WANT to know or have a relationship with God will be the ones who react as those students did. This should NOT be shocking because the Bible speaks of things like this. There will be false prophets, blaspemous people, unbelievers...you know the Word.

I responded to a post (not on GC) which asked if the tragedy took place changed you. As a result of my response, I received ONE email where the guy was completely GOING OFF...about GOD.
This person was obviously angry and oh soooo LOST. He compared God to a serial killer. He wrote that we (Christians) are being mislead because God does not exist. He blasphemed the name of JESUS. I couldn't get angry because the Word speaks of this in these last days. I wrote this person back and told him that it was up to him to receive what I was saying or not. I also told him that I would pray for him (because you and I know that his soul is destined for Hell if he does not repent, be baptized in the name of Jesus, and receive the Holy Ghost).

I can't take on anyone else's stuff. I've got to make sure that MY stuff is right with God before He calls me. I've come to accept the fact that people are going to have the opportunity to accept Jesus in their lives, yet they will refuse Him. All we can do is PRAY, PRAY, PRAY for these people. YOU just keep believing and receiving.
