Post My Recruitment Future

Let me explain my situation. Last year I was a freshman at James Madison University in Virginia. I started to rush, but decided I was going to wait until Sophomore year. Well, my mom wasn't too happy will my grades from freshman year so she made me take a semester off from JMU and prove myself at a local community college in NJ. That's where I am now and things are going great. I am definitely making some good changes and my grades are pretty good. Next semester I plan to go back to JMU and build up my GPA, and take courses over the summer to build it up too. I am still interested in rushing next fall and I think technically I'll be in Sophomore standing. Now how exactly do I explain this during a rush party without it sounding negative and making me look bad?

Also any tips for rushing and getting the house I really want?

I always advise new posters to read this thread:

and these:

These will help you to understand the process a bit more, because really, there's no sure fire way to guarantee that you'll "get the house you want." It's slightly more complicated than that. There are alot of factors that go into whether someone gets a bid or not.

I'm not sure how high your grades are, but I can tell you that sophomores with questionable grades could potentially have a hard time if the pool of girls rushing is traditionally freshmen with pretty high GPAs. Also keep in mind that chapters each have their own individual GPA requirements and will not likely invite back girls that are below that.

The best way to increase your chances of getting "the house you really want" is to maintain friendships with women you have in that chapter, and to not have any other "strikes" against you on paper (ie. get your GPA as high as you can).

If "the house you really want" is a "popular" chapter, and you don't have any friends in there, and your GPA is still low, you are probably SOL. If you are looking to go Greek, you probably could get a bid somewhere if you keep an open mind.

Also, when PNMs say, "I know this is my Nth year, but technically I am a _____ and have X years left," it may not matter because some NPCs have policies that make 5th years go alum if they haven't graduated. Mine allows members to choose whether to stay active or go alum in their 5th year, but not all do.
