General Chapter Question
Can 2 chapters of a single fraternity exist in 1 city? For example, having 2 chapters in 2 different universities of the same city.

I know the women's groups can. We have several in Chicago and 2 in Boston and LA. I'm sure there are others. As long as the alum groups can support them, I don't see why not.

Yes we do. We also have 3 chapters in Chicago - and that's just the collegiate chapters. We have around 4 alum chapters in Chicago I think.

Of course.

Overall, though, it's the bigness of the car that counts the most. Because when something bad happens in a really big car – accidentally speeding through the middle of a gang of unruly young people who have been taunting you in a drive-in restaurant, for instance – it happens very far away – way out at the end of your fenders. It's like a civil war in Africa; you know, it doesn't really concern you too much. - P.J. O'Rourke

In Chicago:
DG at DePaul and UofC
AOPi at Depaul and UofC
DTD at DePaul and IIT
TKE at Loyola and UIC
Phi Sig at Loyola and UIC
SAE at DePaul and Loyola
Pike at DePaul and UofC
SigEp at IIT and UofC
Phi Kappa Sigma at DePaul and IIT
ASA at Loyola, DePaul, and IIT
By and large the chapters really don't collaborate together. You'd be surprised how different the make up of each of the chapters are even if they are in the same city.
This isn't even counting Northwestern in Evanston which borders Chicago and is 10-15min. away from Loyola.

Reason: forgot phi kappa sigma!

AGD has two in and around Erie, as well. Gannon and Edinboro.
I'm jealous about your 4 alum chapters - I'm debating about getting involved in AGD's Chicagoland Alumnae Club because they're mostly in the suburbs, and it seems like their junior circle isn't that active. Sisters are sisters and I love them all, but I'm lonely here and need friends my own age. We have lots of alum chapters but I'm really looking for a junior circle.
Unless there's a Chicago AGD alumna on GC that wants to go with me to check it out

Random but did you go to the installation of the colony at Roosevelt? Do you know are they doing? I heard TKE's attempt at colonization there didn't go very well.

Not just in big cities either. Phi Kappa Sigma is at SUNY Potsdam and Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY. And Potsdam is only about 16000 people.
Plus there is (or was) another chapter 10 miles down the road at Saint Lawrence University in Canton, NY.

Nope I didn't - I have no idea what's going on over there. I just moved here like a month ago so I didn't even know we were colonizing there! I hope it went well though.
The website says they're still going through the process. Maybe I'll go over and do some investigation though
TKE is not listed on the website - unless they colonized at Schaumburg?

Pikes are at Indiana State and Rose Hulman in Terre Haute.
Two of the best chapters in the Midwest are in one city.
I also know that ATO & Chi Omega are at both campuses.
FIJI and Delta Sigma Phi also had chapters at both until each of those respective chapters got kicked off the ISU campus.
