Worst colleges in the US....
This take on college rankings focuses on accredited 4 year institutions. It is definitely a different perspective.....

Interesting...
Some of my favorites:
Most Superficial: University of Southern California
Quote:
In 2006, a popular member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sent out a now-infamous e-mail castigating the overweight "cows" at rival sorority Delta Gamma and exhorting her own sisters to watch their weight over Thanksgiving break. "Don't eat donuts; just don't do it," she earnestly implored, adding that extra slices of pie could have devastating effects on her sisters' "pretty faces and taut stomachs." It all makes perfect sense when you consider this is the same school that spawned the world's most toxic bachelor, Joe Francis.
|
Most Intolerant: Ole Miss (BYU was a close runner-up).

Hilarious that University of Bridgeport gets worst overall. The city of Bridgeport is in rough shape from years of mismanagement, and the school's reputation is right in line with that.

Also named most superficial: Miami (FL)
"if you like cell phones, US Weekly, Prada, and have a mindless herd mentality, this is the school for you."
Most degenerate students: San Diego State
"For most students," notes one perceptive San Diego State graduate, "SDSU is just a place to spend those magical seven years that fall between high school and your first job at the warehouse. To be fair, 58 percent of SDSU's keg-happy attendees actually take a mere six years to graduate. "The students just wanted to get laid or get drunk and party," goes one common complaint. "I felt like only 10 percent of the people were actually there to learn something." But give them a break. According to a "Multilevel Study of College Parties" funded by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism—which evidently deemed SDSU's campus an ideal testing ground—there are as many as 22 bacchanals happening simultaneously on any given night. "
Most Intolerant: Ole Miss
" Affectionately known as Ole Miss, the University of Mississippi in Oxford proves that old habits die hard—particularly racist ones. When chancellor Robert C. Khayat tried to "reexamine" the school's mascot, a character named Colonel Reb that's based on a poor, peanut-vending son of a slave, he received so much hate mail that security around his house had to be tightened"

University of Bridgeport is definitely the scariest school I have ever seen...if only from a distance.
I found it odd that only 33% of Ole Miss students graduate.
My favorite statement of the bunch is for BYU: In addition, YouTube is banned and students are strictly required to abstain from tea, coffee, tobacco, alcohol, illicit drugs, flirting, sexual comments, "promoting homosexual relations," "form-fitting" clothing, and mustaches that extend "beyond the corners of the mouth."
I personally think that banning long mustaches is a great idea, bc they are pretty creepy overall. As far as banning coffee - that's just wrong. God gave us caffiene! He wants us to drink coffee!!

Of course UC Santa Cruz is "most stoned". How original. *rolls eyes* Why did I go to a hippy school?

I definitely agree with the Hampshire College thing. I will never understand why parents pay almost $50,000 a year (and you know they're paying, because these kids clearly can't get jobs!), and why they'll actually let their kids attend!
And is San Diego State really THAT bad?

LOL. I know right? I'm from SD and I know lots of people who graduated from there who are pretty ambitious (they just liked to party a lot).
I'm surprised my school didn't end up on this list for being ugly (or full of hippies).

The statistic is not that only 33% graduate, it's that 33% graduate in 4 years. So that means there are a lot of 5th year students (maybe even 6th year)
ETA: I totally laughed when I read that Swarthmore was the "Most Insufferable" and Reed was runner-up. I knew a girl in high school who wanted sooo badly to go to Swarthmore, but she didn't get in. She was waitlisted on Reed, but somehow managed to get in. She totally fits the description. Yuck!

LOL Is this supposed to be a slam against USC? I don't think most Trojans would see it as anything other than a compliment, this one included. HA HA HA HA HA

Most Degenerate Students.. runner up??
Quote:
With 22 bars and 15 liquor stores within two miles of campus, an instructor suspected of heading up a major pot-dealing operation, and more hazing incidents than you can shake a paddle at, the only thing Chico State can't claim is a 75-student drug bust.
It is, however, home to Phi Kappa Tau, which was suspended in 2005 for filming hardcore pornography in its fraternity house. The festivities included a game in which a posse of flabby frat boys attempt to toss a ring onto a dildo nestled in a porn star's privates.
|
Chico State only gets runner up for this??

Concerning Bob Jones University:
Quote:
The suggestively named BJU offers all the spirituality of Liberty, but with even less sex. A highlight from the dress code: "Abercrombie & Fitch and its subsidiary Hollister have shown an unusual degree of antagonism to the name of Christ. ... Articles displaying their logos are not acceptable."

At least the caffine is banned for religious reasons. I don't care for that very much. But that's probably why I'm not Mormon.
