I believe that his ideas are exactly what America needs. We really need to recenter our nation on the beliefs that we were founded upon if we wish to maintain our current status as world leaders.

Ron Paul is who most identify with. Unfortunately he's not going to win. He doesn't thump enough bibles. The Republican party is now beholden to the evangelicals. Even Rudy Guliani is trying to make peace with them.

I was waiting for this post.
He is a fringe candidate.
Eli, not so sure about your Jefferson comment. Really, could ANY politician from 200 years ago sound like any modern day candidate.
I'm of the opinion that many of our founding fathers, if put into present day America, would disagree with a lot of their own views from 1776.

I've known of Ron Paul since the late '70s/early '80s when I ran for local office as a Libertarian. Only recently did I find out he is also a Lambda Chi.
Keep on saying he can't win - that's what they said about Harry Truman.

So, I guess you would all also agree I am a legitimate candidate for Grand High Alpha?
I expect to see you all with my bumper sticker; "Don't be a playa' hata', vote Gamma Zeta"

Ron Paul has spent most of his professional career as an OB/GYN, and is one of few politicians in Texas to have been elected to the U.S. Congress twice in two different districts.

The FIRST part of my platform: finances
Financial Accounting
1. Have an independent audit of all assets and expenditures from the last 20 years, including all travel expenses, property expenditures, operating budgets, salaries, etc.
2. Make the audit public and post it on our website.
3. All budgets, donations, income and expenditures will be made public and posted on the website.
4. All salaries will be reviewed by an independent, non-greek board of advisors.
5. All chapters will be required to complete a basic course in finance and budgets.
6. Hire an independent company to begin a new campaign aimed at generating new donations from members who never gave before.
7. Begin budgeting for the future: each year the financial team will not only be required to generate next years budget, but a basic budget for the next 2, 5, 10 and 20 years aimed at estimating operating expenses and income.
8. Finish getting LXA out of the property management business.
9. Go out to bid on exclusive contracts for products like: t-shirts, printing, etc., so that we can maximize our buying power as a national organization, and not as independent chapters.

I'm not saying Ron Paul is not a good candidate or his views are not good.
Unfortunately, politics has become less about good candidates and more about electable candidates.
Just look, in the last 50 years of presidential elections, you either need an established name or you need some mad $$$.
One of the rare examples was Bill Clinton, someone from a small state without personal wealth. He got in because of good planning/advising and charasmatic personality. You won't see that for another 100 years.
The sad part is, it isn't just national elections.
Even in Massachusetts, if you want to run for State Representative against an incumbant, you better be able to throw in $20,000-$30,000 of your own money.
You're also forgetting, I come from Massachusetts. My vote, either to Democrat or Republic, means absolutely nothing. Mass. will go Democratic no matter what.

How did Mitt get elected in such a heavily liberal/Democratic state? I've always wondered this
