RIP Uga VI
Sad News College Football Fans.
The University of Georgia’s beloved mascot, Uga VI ,died Friday of congestive heart failure at his home in Savannah. A true Southern gentleman, the handsome Dawg was 9 years old. He will be buried in a vault at Sanford Stadium with Ugas I-V.
You all know what a devoted Trojan I am, but like when Bevo XIII died in 2006, I am HEARTBROKEN.
I am a big softie for animals and Traveler, Uga and Bevo (and George Tirebiter, of course!) are my favorite mascots. Forget the guys in the big furry costumes with over sized melons, (or Oranges) give me a real live animal mascot with heart and soul and personality any day.
REST IN PEACE Uga VI. Condolences go out to the Bulldog Nation tonight. “Bite On” to all y’all from George Tirebiter and the entire Trojan Nation.

A lot of people around here are heartbroken when the UGa mascots die. It seems like bulldogs don't live very long.

I saw this on wikipedia of all places when it happened. I had to call my parents. It's extra sad for me because this Uga was around when I was in college.

If you go to www.ajc.com
You will see pictures and tributes.
I'm glad he's being "reunited" with his family at Sanford Stadium.
I wonder what the nickname of Uga VII is...Dooley?

Oh, how sad. This Longhorn is a big Uga fan. I always enjoyed seeing him at the games on tv.

sad children
All three of my children--and hubby & I--are mourning the loss of Uga VI. His picture hangs in my younger son's room, courtesy of a professional photographer who lovingly took the opportunity to take that particular one 'just for Nancy'! W/o looking back, someone mentioned bulldogs don't live that long: 8-10 years is considered average life. Uga was on the 'old' side for a Bullie.
We look forward to 'meeting' the new Uga as football season kicks off in a few weeks--it'll bring a smile to our faces to see another beautiful, white bulldog dressed in red and black!

Nothing about Mike The Tiger, whom by far has to be one of the most well taken care of mascots in the country. He lives better than most impoverished americans.

Gaaaa! Stay away from the small child!
I'm a dawg fan, too, but this dawg in particular:

Whitepaw's Arlut Spirit of Gold Dust ("Spirit"), mascot of the University of Washington Huskies

I don't know about now but several years ago, many of us who had to stand on the sidelines were not fans of Mississippi State's "Bully". He lived for one thing; to chase people, especially the guy in the mascot outfit, knock them down and do rude things to their leg.

I think the present Bully is a fine dog, but my dad has unpleasant memories of the stench at basketball games that the Bully from his era would occasionally, um, emit.
I know this is UGA blasphemy, especially in proximity to recent events, but I think the Bullys are better looking dogs generally than the Ugas. Just saying.
And I love Mike the Tiger and find his habitat really impressive. He's a freakin' tiger. Imagine Florida having a live Gator. It'd be awesome if it weren't Florida.
ETA: Upon closer google image inspection, I see my evaluation may be flawed. It's impossible for me render a decision on the comparative beauty of bulldogs. And that photo of Uga attacking the Auburn player always comes up to tip things in his favor.
