Question Sorority Houses

Hi Everyone!

I came across this website today and HAD to join! I'm in my first year of university at the University of Western Ontario, and I was just initiated about a month ago! I love everything about Theta so far...which is why I am so excited to have a place in our house next year. Our house is old and beautiful, and holds 12 girls. We don't have a House Mom like I've heard some chapters do in the States. Most of the rooms have bunk beds. The living room is big and a deep red colour. We have beautiful hardwood floors, and it is two stories. There are rumours about a ghost.

What I am wondering is, what are your chapter houses like? How many girls live in them? What is the decorating style inside? Is your house on some sort of "Greek Row"? I am so curious to know more about other chapter houses!

Hey! First of all, congratualtions on your initiation! I love the sound of your house. At my school, we don't have "house mom's" either. All 8 of our greek houses are owned by the school, so it costs the same as living in a dorm, but we have an exclusive use policy; meaning that we get to decide who lives in, by any means we want. However, we have to comply with the school in keeping a certain occupancy. It has it's ups and it's downs, but all in all I LOVE living in. In fact, I was voted (by my chapter) "Most Likely to Live in Theta After Graduation" hahaha. Our house holds 32 girls. Most of our rooms are doubles, but we have about 5 singles (I think) and one triple. Our living room I think is gorgeous. We have hard wood floors, and wooden panneling on the walls. We also have a white fireplace. The living room is connected to our library by wooden sliding doors. Our foyer has stone tile on the ground, and we have a glass awards case that holds our national and school awards along with a really old scrapbook from our chapter. The only beef I have with our house is that the upstairs and the basement is kind of ugly. It used to be a fraternity house (Kappa Sigma) and those places still look like a fraternity house haha. And in order to redecorate we have to jump through a bunch of hoops with our school, but we're working on it. Anyway, I'm sure that was WAY more than you wanted to hear about my house. Congratulations again on your initiation!!!

Theta Love and Mine,
Brit

Hi Canadian Theta!
Congrats on your recent Initiation! Your chapter house sounds beautiful.

A little bit about the chapter house that I lived in at Iowa State. It currently holds 59 women and does have a live in housemother. All the sororities have facility directors at ISU and I would guess that at least half of the fraternities do as well. The Theta chapter has cold air dorms, which has beds for most of the women to sleep in. And then in the rooms where the women keep their personal belongings is a daybed. The room size for occupancy varies from 2-5 people. Our formal living room was redone last summer and it's lovely. It's mainly a light gold/butter color with black and red accents.

Instead of just one "Greek Row" there's a Greekland, because there are about 40 chapters that have houses. The houses are owned by the respective corp boards for the organizations and most of them are just south of campus.

And here's a picture of our living room. We had is set up for our annual alumnae brunch, so usually there is a TV and couches in here.

Eta Pi's Chapter is getting a house (like many of the Greek houses at Case Western Reserve, it's dorm-style) this fall. It will hold 26 members. HQ is helping us decide how our interior is going to be in the common areas. We're so excited!

So jealous of you guys at Eta Pi! Eta Omicron is having to wait at least two more years for greek housing!!!!! That sounds so exciting for you guys!
