Phoenix/SoCal
Will be in Phoenix on a Thursday with a friend from home. We are renting a car and traveling to LA/SoCal Friday - Monday and will leave Phoenix on a Wed. We are 21 and 22. Any must sees or dos? Any thing to avoid? Good places to eat? Clubs to go to with fun college crowds? Places to avoid? Shop, thinking about Rodeo and 3rd St Promenade? We are staying maybe in a friend of a friends Venice Beach apt and are going to Uni Studios one day.
We also tried to get to get tix to the Price is Right, but they are not taping while we are there. How tragic!

alphachiohmy,
email me if you want to know what clubs to hit while in PHX. My email is in my profile.
Safe travel!

Faced with the Divine, I was asked; "What one gift do you seek?"
I answered ever so meekly; "I seek Honor, Truth, Integrity, and Wisdom, yet those are four. How am I to choose?"
The answer came as a pounding whisper; "The four you seek are but one. I grant thee Compassion; for without it the four make none."

Hey- Rodeo and 3rd St Promenade and Main Street in Venice are all good places to shop. Colorado Bl in Old Town Pasadena is nice too.
Eat: these fall in the pricey category but are amazing and quite the LA scene: Ago, the Little Door, Lucques, Asia De Cuba, Ivy--either at the shore or in beverly hills. All will require reservations.
As far as less expensive (but still LA prices, of course) eateries: Sushi Roku --I think the one on 3rd in West Hollywood is better than the one in Santa Monica. Caffe Luna on Melrose--open til 4am. Cafe 8 1/2 on Robertson--quiet, not too pricey-best penne vodka. La Poubelle on Franklin.
Farmers Market on Fairfax is fun on the weekends when they have karoke. I personally hate karoke, but not at Farmer's Market--contact them to see if its on on the weekend you are in LA
Bars/Clubs: SkyBar, Dominics, Guys, Deep (almost impossible to get in), James Beach, Bar Marmont, Lola's, The Standard--that's all I can think of right now.
If I think of more or if you have questions, let me know.

Club Gear worn to clubs. LOL. "Sorority Pants, backless shirts, trendy stuff ussually.
Yes it is hard to get into some of the clubs. Less hard if you are all women and get there early --like by 10. After that they will enforce their guest list. Be confident, don't be afraid, be nice, but project an attitude that says you KNOW they'll let you in. Skybar, The Standard and Deep are the problems on the list I gave you. The others will be fine. Lines are typically not long, and if they are, move fast.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound silly. Just wondering if there is a vast difference in "club gear" on the West Coast! I am so excited about going but clueless as to life out there!

What do people wear out to clubs? Is it hard to get in to some of the LA clubs? Are there long lines? When's the best time to go?

Back from LA/Phoenix as of 1 a.m. this morning - had an absolute blast. Am sunbaked and in pain and broke, but it was all worth it! Heres a rundown of how things went.
Three of us girls ended up going)both were my college roomies at some point in time at SIUC), taking a flight from St. Louis to Phoenix and then renting a car. Flight was okay. My head hurt like something else as we landed.
Arizona is awesome; temperature in Phoeniz was about 110 degrees during the day. First day - we went and visited Arizona State University. Lunched at Fat Tuesdays Downtown Tempe and sampled some of the 30 or so frozen concontions,, and you got free cups out of the deal. Swindled a few more cups - just enough for a dinner set to match the yellow plastic plates picked up at Walmart on sale.
Next day we set out for Los Angeles, a 5.5 hour trip through the desert. There are some wacked out windmills right as you get to Palm Springs. Hundreds of them power some small town in Utah, and they wonder why they need power outages in Cali. Hit the outlet stores in Cabazon, and finally got to LA. Chacked into our Courtyard Marriot by the LA Airport and crashed till 6 p.m.
Went out that night to Drago's Ristorante - a sweet little dish in Santa Monica. Then headed to the lobby of the Mondrain hotel and worked our way up to Skybar. The bar had a cute atmosphere, pillows and candles galore. And all of us girls met boys, some from an Austrailian band called Supanatural, and lawyers celebrating the second year of their law firm. One of those lawyers included - "Chunk" from the Goonies movie.
Saturday morning we hit 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica and headed to Newport Beach for the day. At night headed back up to Sunset Strip (a place called Red Rock) in Hollywood with some guys from our hometown, one that had recently moved out to LA with his parents and the other who was visiting.
Sunday, we went to Universal Studios (which was a blast), came home and crashed. Monday we went to Venice Beach, Rodeo Drive and the UCLA campus. We stayed with the Alpha Chi's at University of California-Irvine at the last minute - they are an awesome house and I'm so happy they are my sisters.
Tuesday, we hit the beach again ( a little running in the morning) and baked in the sun. Drove back to Phoenix that afternoon.
And hopped on a plane last night. I wish my vacation didn't have to end! But I am headed back to school tomorrow.
Hope you enjoy my little reminiscance!
