ATL GCers, are you all okay?

I just woke up and saw the news about the tornado in Atlanta. Let us know y'all are okay.

Thumbs up

Doing well here...I am in a suburb, but very close to the airport. I haven't surveyed all the damage in my neighborhood but lots of hail and trees and branches down. If you were in or near downtown atlanta. Lots of damage was found there. Just a scary night..but glad to see things can be fixed.

Thanks for asking!!!

sorry for the crash...My teenaged son was at the Dome with his girlfriend's family when it happened--the dome began to shake and the catwalks up top were swaying and debris was falling on them..what a scary place to be.

^^^^ terrifying and totally unexpected

As Fox News said, this definitely debunks the urban legend that tornados don't hit downtown areas with high rise buildings.

I was shocked when I saw this and had to make sure my folkseses are okay. The police are trying to keep people from driving around the area and stuff.

Both downtown Fort Worth and downtown Nashville have had tornados hit in the past 10 or so years. The Fort Worth one was pretty bad... one entire skyscraper (30 or so stories, can't remember exactly) was ruined and no longer inhabitable. Hundreds of cars were just pancaked on top of each other thoughout the downtown parking lots.

Fortunately it hit in the early evening, so the 9 to 5ers had gone home. A very close friend of mine was in his downtown office building at the time and said that it was scary as hell.

Don't know how or why the downtown myth started. It might just be pure math... if you consider the total square miles of "Tornado Alley" and compare it to the total square miles of the downtown areas in that same area... well, math will win most of the time- just not all of the time.

I have 3 sands that are in ATL and they are safe! I was wondering what happened when I turned my tv on to watch the UK-GA game. I am glad folks are doing well... just wow.

No crash.

Yeah my friends said they don't know why that urban legend exists because they know of high rise areas that have been hit. I think it's about probability and math, like you said. People hear about tornadoes mostly NOT hitting high rise areas so they think that means something.

Unfortunately there is one fatality of the ATL tornado.

Okay the downtown twister was last night and another twister hit today (Northwest ATL?). There are a few fatalities.

all good

I am in Atlanta and all my family and friends are OK. While I don't post alot, I appreciate coming here and the question being asked. I worked late Friday night and was heading home oblivious to everything that was going on. The reality of it all reminds you of how precious life is and how thankful we must all be for making it through any given day.

Hey Sorors,

GOD is good. The family, chapter sorors and I are fine. Since the storm hit in the downtown area our nect of the woods was not affected as much. I am just thankful we didn't have as many casualties as it could have been even though one is too many. However, I did hear this morning that there is more on the way so please keep us lifted. God is still faithful! My advice for those who live in apt's PLEASE go and get apt insurance you never know when you'll need it. The payment could be as low as $15 a month. I am getting on that task this morning...rather be safe than sorry.

Love ya!

My boyfriend, friends, and I were on Peachtree St. having dinner when the tornado hit. It was so scary. But thank God we're all okay.

Now that I know everyone is okay....

Do any of the ATL Deltas know if the step show is still on this weekend?

I know there was some damage near the venue for the show, so I wasn't sure if it had been postponed.
