Paige Davis Leaving 'Trading Spaces'

NEW YORK — Paige Davis is moving out of TLC's "Trading Spaces." The perky host of the popular TV show about couples who redecorate each other's homes is leaving, the cable network announced Monday. TLC said Davis' departure is part of a spring transition to a host-less format.

"We believe that this new creative direction will enable the show to be more spontaneous, focus more on the homeowners and designers, and create alternative home trades in different cities and on opposite coasts," TLC said in a statement.

As host of the show, Davis was responsible for introducing the homeowners and designers, swapping their keys and holding their hands when their newly decorated rooms were revealed.

She began hosting "Trading Spaces" in its second season in 2001.

"I just wanted to take a minute to say goodbye," Davis wrote on the show's Web site. "I cannot begin to explain what an incredible journey this show has been for me. I love `Trading Spaces' so much, and I am very proud of what the cast and crew has brought to you."

Besides "Trading Spaces," Davis also appeared on Broadway in "Beauty and the Beast" and "Chicago."

"Paige helped make 'Trading Spaces' a great success for the network and we wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors," TLC said.

Davis' last new episode will air in March.

I used to watch Trading Spaces faithfully, but, as they do with so many good shows, they screwed with it too much and added formats, changed formats, etc. I happened to see a part of one the other day that was "Trading Castles". With the family edition, the regular edition and the kid edition, they did TS overload. Without Paige, I can't see it being very interesting at all.

Didn't they get rid of a lot of the original designers also? I saw Todd on the Tony Danza show a few days ago promoting his new book. I agree that they fooled with it too much and it ruined the show. Plus, Trading Spaces, While You Were Out, Extreme Makeover Home Edition.... I think it was home improvement overload.

I don't know -- I'm kind of a Paige fan, and I think it's a mistake to ditch her. But then I liked Alex McLeod too (the original hostess).

Read an article on cnn that quoted this as being "the death knell for TLC's Trading Spaces". Think I'd have to agree with that take.

I used to watch Trading Spaces all the time, but I got really tired of it. They are probably trying to change up the format to get viewers interested in the show again, but I don't think getting rid of Paige is the right idea.

they probably didnt get rid of paige, she probably wanted to go onto bigger and better things. since trading spaces she's appeard in the two broadway musicals (mentioned before) and is a professionally trained and talented actress, dancer, and singer.

she probably didnt have hosting a home improvement show as her biggest dream when she was a little girl. i mean, i have no doubt that she loved hosting the show, but now is the time for her to capatalize on her stardome and do the things that she really wants to do

i do have to agree, i have gotten annoyed the changing and changing of formats, particularily the most recent format where the homeowners have a lot more say in how the rooms are designed. i dont really want to see how joe shmoe will decorate a house.

I miss Alex. Bring her back. I'll be interested to see how their "hostless" program's going to work.

Oh well, give me more EM-Home Edition any day. TS is barely tolerable anymore and without Paige I doubt I'll watch unless Frank is on. Paige really is incredibly talented. She was definitely one of the few bright spots on TS, her talents are wasted in a hosting capacity.

To this very day, my mom hates Hildi for that.

No, my mom really hates people from the television, even news anchors she doesn't like.

My mom is weird.

lol

Call me cynical, but I hate that show. Every week seems like a contest to see just how many tears they can pull out, how many times the "crew" can say (through tears, of course) "re-doing this house is the most meaningful thing I've ever been involved in," and how many times the grateful homeowners can say "Thank you, ABC!"

Oh, that's the fun of it though. You know they're going to be emotional. I like it because the design is ALL about the family, and not what some "designer" vision of gluing wine labels or flowers or feathers or hay or whatever on the walls.

Don't forget the relentless Sears plugs every time.

Then again, there were a number of PartyLite items used in this week's house, so I really shouldn't snark on Sears.

Has TLC lost it's mind? The Learning Channel has dumped Paige Davis from "Trading Spaces."

Paige, who has been a queer fave on the show that redecorates homes for white trash didn't have a clue she was headed out the door We're told she showed up at her office and found the lock had been changed.

Trading won't have a replacement, relying instead on the designers to do all the talking.

"We believe that this new creative direction will enable the show to be more spontaneous, focus more on the homeowners and designers, and create alternative home trades in different cities and on opposite coasts," TLC said in a statement.

Now, if they dump Evan Farmer the humpy host of "While You Were Out" I'm going to war!

Paige won't take long to bounce back. She's appeared on Broadway in "Beauty and the Beast" and "Chicago."

At least the network allowed her to say goodbye to her fans.

"I cannot begin to explain what an incredible journey this show has been for me," she wrote on the show's Web site. "I love 'Trading Spaces' so much, and I am very proud of what the cast and crew has brought to you."

Her last new episode will air in March.

Changing Rooms (the original British version of the show) once did an episode where two brothers, one who lived in New Zealand and one who lived in the UK, flew to each other's home and traded spaces. The one who did the home in the UK had help from one of the designers, host, and Handy Andy from the British edition and the one who did the home in New Zealand had help from one of the designers, host, and Handy Andy from the New Zealand edition. (yes, they have one...and that Handy Andy is HAWT.)
