Cool Convention 2007

Who else is going to convention this summer?

I'm excited becasue this will be my first convention, and I'm looking forward to meeting sisters from across the country.

Convention is in Chicago in 2007...well more like 30 mins away from it...

This will be my 3rd Convention. I always have a good time and if this will be your first one, you'll LOVE it. You'll come away with so much!

I am really interested in going, especially because I just joined my alum chapter after returning to my home state this summer. If finances and health allows, I just may go.

OK I am coming back to this thread.

A few questions, maybe some of our DD can answer. Does travel pool allowance apply to alum chapters? What about registration coverage?

I really want to go and am still figuring out if it is financially feasible. I have a potential roommate, but I am not sure what assistance is provided to alum chapters in good standing.

Also, for those of you who are going, which airport are you flying into, and do you have info on transportation to/from the airport and hotel? I want to make sure I budget for all of this stuff, AND have some spending money. Of course, I will have to get a few new outfits (this is me justifying to my husband) so I can impress ya'll (not really, I just love to shop).

Latstly, if you have suggestions on what to wear during the non-formal events (service projects, etc.) let me know; shorts/tees/skirts/etc.

If you want to email me privately, PM me and I will give you my home email address.

I may be going, I not sure. Im trying to get to California this summer to visit my aunt and make the road trip with my friend Jenni. She could possibly fly to Chicago and meet me at the end of convention... hmm

The Convention information is already up on the National Website which is www.gammasigmasigma.org

Just click on "2007 Convention" and all of the particulars are there as far as cost, what to wear, etc.

You should double check with the National Treasurer, but I do believe that alumni chapters are eligible for travel pool. Also if the chapter is in good standing Nationals will cover registration for two members. You just have to get there. Again, check with either your chapter treasurer or our National Treasurer.

I am flying in myself, and I am flying in to O'Hare International in Chicago. However there is another airport, Midway (I think that's the name) you can fly into as well. But most flights will fly you into O'Hare. Be prepared to pay for your own transportation to the resort as the resort doesn't have shuttle service...not sure if the National sorority has made arrangements otherwise, but still be prepared. When I went for our annual meeting I paid about $20 to get there from the Airport. But since is more or less a vacay for me I plan on renting a car for the week (I'll be there a day or two earlier than ya'll )

Visit the website and if there are still any more questions, ask away.

Thanks, gamma girl! I saw the info online and in Perspectives but I wasn't sure about what to wear for the non-formal events. I was looking for info maybe from someone who has gone to Convention before. And i have spoken to my treasurer, so I have all that info now!

That's a great idea to rent a car. I did look up service to/from the hotel as well as flights. I really hope to go. I don't want to get too excited in case I cannot go. Crossing everything I possibly can! Can't wait to meet you all!

Well it looks like I may not be able to go. Because my health is a little unstable and my husband really wants to come with me, it's out of our budget.

I do hope to be able to attend spirit days and regional meetups, and find additional opportunities in the 2 years between conventions. I am so sad about this, but health comes first.

I wish everyone attending the best of time!!

Alison, I too might be going "officially". We have to fingure out some financials but the decision might be easier now that I *might* have my reg. covered. DH is hopefully contracting on the side, so that would more than pay for it. Cross your fingers!

Also, do you know what came of your sharing the info I gave you? If your chapter chose something else, that's fine. I have to send in my paperwork this week.

Hugs, and let's hope that I can go and we can meet!!!!
Toni
