Wondering If I Still Have A Chance

This goes out to anyone who can help me with my problem that I am having.

I am approaching my senior year in college and i have my mind made up for which sorority i want to join. The only problem that i have come across time and time again is having the proper GPA. I know that the GPA has to be 2.5 and i have a 2.0 going into my senior year. I only have 17 hours left to complete before I graduate from college.

What i need to know is if i still have time to get myself together in order to pledge and if not undergrad, is there a way for me to pledge the graduate chapter. Also, do i have to be enrolled in graduate school to pledge the grad chapter if it is too late for me to do it in undergrad.

Can someone please help me. My heart has been set from the day that I stepped foot on campus and did the research for myself. I really need to know if i have missed out on being a part of the organization that is a part of my heart and soul.

The best advice I can give you is to work on getting your GPA higher. This is something that will stay on your transcript FOR LIFE!! To be concerned about joining any sorority is not as important as improving your GPA.

I can't speak for other sororities but as for mine, you do not have to be in grad school to join a grad chapter. But you should have some accomplishments and be somebody who is able to contribute to the programs and service of the grad chapter. You also have to be extended an invitation to join. You will not be even invited to a formal rush or anything membership-related if you are not an accomplished, confident woman worthy of membership. So in other words, yes your undergrad years will still count so work on what you can do to finish off your senior year well!

Please concentrate on your studies and improving your GPA. You will have difficulty getting certain jobs, getting into grad school, etc. if your GPA is that low.

Thanks for the help. I have signed up to retake one of my classes within my major in order to help raise my GPA. I am currently working extra hard in order to do these things. I really appreciate your response to my problem.

So how do I go about getting an invitation to take part in the graduate chapter here at my school which i attend? Is there someone that i need to contact or what?

My soror gave you the best advice. Don't worry about anything else right now except for raising your GPA. If you are concentrating specifically on that then you won't have time for anything else. My soror is right, if you don't raise your GPA you will have a very difficult time in getting jobs, furthering your education and in getting an invitation to join any sorority grad chapters. Please please stop worrying about membership in a sorority and concentrate on raising your GPA. Once you have given your all into raising your GPA and then you graduate, then come back and pm any of us and we will gladly give you the best advice that we can. Good luck to you.

I agree with my sorors. Work hard to pull your GPA up and then come back here and we will talk to you more about grad/alumni membership. All the NPHC sororities are about Sisterhood, Scholarship, and Service. Also Alumni chapters represent cities, not specific schools like undergrad chapters do. Good luck to you!

Similar to what the lovely ladies here have said...be concerned about school primarily.

I'll give you the same advice that my brothers gave me when I was in school and was considering intake my final semester. Wait until grad! There are things so much more important than becoming Greek at this point in your life and those are what you really should be focusing on. The org isn't going anywhere. If you want to join and its in your heart it only makes it better once you do become a member.

I have this fall semester to work very hard on raising my GPA and then in the spring I have to concentrate on graduation. I will still take part in some discussions if that is still alright to do. I will make sure that I come back to speak with all of you that have given me some wonderful advise. Again thanks, and keep me in your thoughts.

I hate to burst your bubble but you need to do the math.

If you get all A's (4.0) in your remaining classes (highly unlikely), you will still only end up with a 2.28. If you retake 13 credits AND get a 4.0 in those classes as well (very unlikely), only then will you arrive at a 2.50 (assuming 120 credits required for degree completion).

So basically, you need at least 30 credits of consistent stellar performance to reach a 2.5, something that you have fallen very short of in the preceeding 75% of your expected college career....

I hate to see when people are more concerned with "pledging" something than they are with graduating and being a success in life.
