MP3 player questions

I figured someone here would know more about this topic and I REALLY want a MP3 player, so if anyone can help, please let me know

I can't really decide which MP3 player to buy... and it's mainly for one strange reason: I've heard that Ipods (for example) will only play MP3's from iTunes. Is that true? Does that mean I can't use the MP3's I already have on my computer (a ton!) I'm just scared to buy it and all my MP3's won't work on it.

I've seen a few off-brand Mp3 players, but since I don't really know about those either I haven't purchased them.

Any insights? WHich MP3 player are you using? Is it compatible with MP3s you had before?

You can use mp3's you have already on your computer. you just have to import them into iTunes, which well then convert it into the format used ont he ipod.

I really loved my iPod before I lost it . Yes, they are compatible with mp3s from any player, and you can put your entire CD collection on there, too. The only thing that's stopping me from getting a new one is I hear that an XM Radio/mp3 player is coming out sometime soon.

i have an iPod question that i hope someone can help me with. if i delete songs from my computer, wil they be deleted from my iPod the next time i update it? i just don't want to have sooooo many files on my computer but i don't want to lose them off my iPod either

If you update your i-pod, it will completely replace all of the songs you have on it now, so YES if you delete them from your computer, then they will be deleted from your i-pod when you update it.

If you want to take them off your computer, then I would say make a data CD of the mp3s you want to delete. That way you will have them, and can put them back on your computer if you want to.

ETA: I LOVE my i-pod mini. I did have a problem with it- it just stopped working for some reason, after a few months. I don't know what happened to it, but it just broke.

I took it back to the Apple store WITHOUT a receipt. The guy looked at it and said it would need to be replaced. They had my purchase information in my computer and right away said that a new one would be ordered and it would be there in two days!

I don't know if this would be the case everywhere- but I have to say I got the BEST customer service at the Apple store at our mall!!! I was so impressed. The guy was friendly and helpful, and took care of everything very quickly!

I was anti-iPod for the longest, and I got one of those Dell Digital Jukebox things when they first started selling them. After being dropped several times, the Dell died and I finally gave in and got an iPod. Let me tell you, it is the most awesome thing in the entire world. I had no problem transferring all the songs from the Dell program to iTunes.

It can be done. However, you have to change your iTunes settings to "manually update ipod." However, once you do this everytime you want to add a song to your Ipod, you have to drag it to the ipod icon on your list. My hard drive died last summer and I lost all of my files on my computer. This is what I had to do so I wouldn't then lose all those songs off of the ipod.

I still think the Ipod is the best player in town...easy to use, etc...but those Dell ones might be giving Ipod a run for it's money...

I'm rewarding myself with an MP3 player, but don't want to spend the $$ on an IPod... what are other suggestions?

I'd check out the Sony line... I like the Walkman Bean b/c you can get FM radio with it also

Apple just came out with a new version of the nano for about a $100. When it comes to electronics, you want to spend the extra money.

The nano is pretty sweet. It's tiny - lots of people put them in their shirt pockets. It's only got about 1GB capacity, I think, but if you manage your iTunes playlists and podcasts right, that's plenty.

Apple offers an educational discount. If you're still in school, look into it.

Be warned, though: Apple ships via FedEx, signature required at time of delivery. I ordered an iPod for my husband a couple of months ago, as a birthday gift, to be delivered to our house. FedEx wouldn't leave it - I couldn't even leave a signed release - according to Apple's shipping instructions, someone had to be physically present to sign at time of delivery, and we both work full-time, so no one was home. The iPod went back to Apple, and I had to redirect it to my husband's office where someone could sign for it.

It's easy to use MP3's with an iPod. I have a lot of MP3's, some ripped off CD's I own, some acquired through *ahem* other means, and they all work fine with my iPod and iTunes.

The 1GB is the cheap one I was talking about, but my nano is 4GB so you have a few choices on size.

I'm thinking about taking the plunge and getting an mp3 player or ipod. How "big" is big enough? 512mb, 1G, 2G, 4G, 30G, 60G?

I'm scared to get something that's too small and I don't want to waste money on something that's too big. What size works best for those of you that have one already?

Also, I heard that you can't move songs from your iPod to your computer. Is that true? Is it true for other players?

I'm thinking of getting an iPod, a Sony Bean, or a Samsung mp3 player.
