This is a sad story, please read and tell me what you think. I have mixed feeling about this case.

I started a thread on Delta Drive asking what is wrong with our kids. WOW. I think that kid needed some medication.

Your link does not work. I am familiar with this story though and have been following it. He had some unresolved anger issues I believe.

Try it now. Click on the above link in the first post
The issue is that the child was abused by his mother for a long time and one day got fed up. His brother taunted him after his mother scolded him and got caught up in his anger for the mother. The article gives more clarity but the boy basically said he is sorry for killing his brother but not his mother.

More like someone to stop the beatings and some therapy.

Sometimes I think people should be licensed to have children.

OK, now that is a law that needs passing.

More information: Katrina Powe was fed up with her older son, an aggressive 12-year-old who was getting into fistfights and had started a neighborhood gang. Several times, she told her younger son, a 9-year-old, that she was going to send her older child away as she had done before, according to police.

There were also signs that Powe would physically abuse the 12-year-old but not the 9-year-old, according to two Prince George's County police sources who spoke on condition of anonymity because the situation involves on ongoing investigation.

"She would pit one child against the other," one of the sources said. "She played favorites."

On Sunday morning, the 12-year-old stabbed and bludgeoned to death his mother and brother in the family's Forestville apartment, police said. His rage was sparked by an argument with his mother after he and his brother were ejected from a friend's birthday party, the sources said.

Angry

I really feel bad for this boy. According to the elementary school and program he was in he would have been one of my students next year. I know something could have been done to prevent this. People knew about the abuse -- the neighbors and particularly the mother of the friend whose house he ended up at!! Why did they not report what was clearly criminal behavior by the mother?

The issue is these welfare to work programs do not work if you do not address the whole situation. These programs give the mother job skills to support the family independently but fail to teach them life skills like how to balance it all (work, parenting, keeping house, etc.) She took her frustrations out on this child to the very extreme and led him to just lose it. I am really praying for that child and his healing.

I agree the system failed him and his family and now his has to live without a parent, brother, or childhood because no one thought to stand up for him and report the obvious abuse. These kids deal with a society build not for them. There is no structure ensuring the healthy development of youth.

Did she beat him before or after he started a gang?

Because if my kid started a gang, I'd make him live in Haiti until he promised to behave.

The beatings did not all of a sudden start and had a sudden reaction. He has been beaten continuously from my understanding so as a result of wanting to fit in and wanting to be loved he started a gang, and lashed out a other kids, and spent the night at a neighbor's house (whenever his mother put him out)

How are you going to put a 12 year old out?

Do we know how old the "mother" was? I wouldn't be surprised if she liked the youngest son's father more than the oldest...which would explain the obvious favoritism.

As I always say, there's a special place in hell...

I guess I'm asking if he got beaten just cuz or for something. And is it like bone breaking type of beatings or just mother slaps?
