Opinions needed
I have a problem/dilemma that I need help with.
Back in the spring, one of my classes conflicted with my sorority meetings. I told my chapter I would not be able to attend meetings for a few months. I haven't been back to a meeting since. The class was part of the reason, the other part I never discussed with them.
That other part was this: at Christmas time my chapter put me in charge of finding a family that we could buy gifts for so they would have a happy holiday. I contacted a shelter that my work was involved with and they assigned us a family. The family members had requested some gifts that I thought were a little on the expensive side. I took the list to my chapter so we could divide up the gifts. Many of the women in the chapter got upset. Upset at the family and upset at me. Some stated that the gift were too expensive and they were going to buy what they wanted. I got the feeling that some of the sisters thought I picked this family on purpose. I apologized to the chapter saying I had no idea the family would want these gifts, but it was the middle of December, so it was too late to request a different family. If a sister did not want to participate, she didn't have to. I was upset at the shelter who wanted my chapter to buy these gifts, and I was upset at my chapter who basically blamed me for this whole incident. I got the feeling that some of my sisters wanted to give these gifts just to say they gave gifts to someone less fortunate.
Needless to say, I have not been back to my chapter since. I was hoping to join another chapter and tell my current chapter it was a scheduling conflict and I needed to transfer to stay active. The only other chapter in the area I would want to join meets on the same day as mine. So that idea is out the window. I would like to let this other chapter know that I'm interested in transferring, but what do I say to my current chapter if it works out?
Sorry so long. PM me if you need more clarification. Thanks for your help.
