The way I read it, a passenger ran off the aircraft claiming he had a bomb. He was challenged on the Jetway by Federal agents (sky-marshalls) and shot when he appeared to be reaching into the bag.

Don't know which version is correct.

Dang... it's on the news right now. They killed him. Why cry "bomb" on an airplane?

The report I heard said that his family reports that he is bipolar and was off his medication and I "think" they said he's going through a divorce. As if the federal marshalls are supposed to know this.

I'm just hoping the guy's family doesn't try to sue for wrongful death or something like that.

Not to impugn on the practitioners of the honorable profession of law, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are a few opportunists with a law license who probably have already contacted her to start the legal shakedown. Now who's got the deepest pockets...?

It's a known fact that there are federal air marshals riding the skies, even more so after 9-11, as well as some flight crews who are also qualified to pack heat. Cry out at the top of your lungs, "I've got a bomb" and act suspiciously these days (especially in the sterile area past the checkpoints), you're almost guaranteed to get a 9mm slug or two put in you.

Assuming the reports are true, it's hard to see what choice the Marshalls had in this case.

Can you even imagine what would have been said if the Sky Marshalls hadn't fired and the guy had a bomb and blew up the jetway, aircraft and its passengers along with folks in the terminal into little pieces?

Hmmm... anyone else heard the passengers saying they never heard him say 'bomb'?

I'm wondering if we have another London Subway incident of some trigger happy cops...

Yep, the latest is that people were told to say they heard the word "bomb" to justify the shooting. This is a shame all the way around, but its kind of irking me how people are saying hoorah for the air marshalls. I mean, if they did, in fact, kill an innocent and sick man, its not anything to be proud of. Lets hope they get the right guys at the right time, then we can all cheer.

I haven't heard this anywhere. I have heard they were investigating if he said bomb but it wasn't official.

Either way, I doubt many terrorists knowingly signal to everyone that they have a bomb when flights have marshalls on them these days. His behavior was cause for action. If he wasn't shot and had the bomb and blew it up, then the cops wouldn't be trigger happy? Poppycock.
