queen18's UF Recruitment 2005

I've been having a great time reading everyone's past recruitment stories and finally decided to start one of my own. I'm really excited about rush but its really nerve wracking considering how HUGE UF rush is. I'm also a little nervous since I'm a sophomore...hopefully that won't hurt my chances too badly. The best part has been clothes shopping though. Now just got to find those elusive cute yet comfortable shoes. It's been a little weird though since my boyfriend doesn't want me to rush...doesn't give any reason why, I think he just has a lot of misconceptions about sororities. Does anyone else have this problem? Maybe its just me. Alright well thats all for now, won't be much to tell til Aug. 16th.

I think alot of boyfriends and parents are a little worried when we rush! lol. My mom has a lot of misconceptions about sororities as well and she's not so thrilled that i'm rushing. Maybe your boyfriend is just worried that once you join that you won't have a lot of time for him anymore! Hope you find those elusive shoes!! hahaha.

Best wishes

I'm so excited for you! Don't worry about being a sophomore, I was a junior at UF when I rushed.

Have a wonderful time shopping!

get ready to have a blast...
keep your eyes and heart open, and let the boyfriend know it will be fine whatever happens. if he can't deal with that, then you know something, don't you?
and yeah toward comfy shoes.

it is harder to be a sophomore pnm at u of f, but is not impossible to get a bid. please keep all your options open-every chapter has something that makes them special. best wishes and keep us updated.

ps:re the boyfriend problem. one of my sisters-in-law did not go thru recruitment when whe was in college because of her boyfriend and she regrets it to this day. do not let a boy run your life!!

An idea for the comfortable part....if you're wearing close-toed shoes, Dr. Scholl's gel soles are super amazing! I laughed at the commerical advertising them until I put them in my 3in heels for a conference one time. My feet didn't hurt until about 10 minutes before I had to take them off, after lasting for about 7 hours. You can find them at any Wal-mart, Target, drug stores maybe as well. Good Luck, and don't forget to try and stay cool as I'm sure its around the same temp in FL as it is here in south TX!

awesome!!! another UF/SEC thread!

I'll be honest with you, I had a guy friend that would always be my date to events that is until the events became sorority events. It was like he was nervous about going into that setting with me,

But don't worry... it'll come with time and trust.

Good luck.....

Thanks for all the helpful tips you guys. I've talked to the boyfriend and he's trying to be supportive...Some people just get so caught up in stereotypes it clouds their judgement. Not letting it get me down though, he's slowly coming around. Wow didn't mean to rhyme on that sentence. Haha I'll end on that note. Won't have much to say until rush actually starts, now its just waiting and shopping.

Okay, 2 more days til the recruitment meeting. Got my shoes, all my dresses, and as far as I know all my recs are in as well. My mom was in town this weekend so there was lots of shopping both for rush and for everything to stock me up for the year. Can't believe it's coming up so fast! The excitement grows and grows...

Hey queen! It's good that you talked to your b/f about it . I know that when I went through recruitment last year, my guy wasn't thrilled. At his school, the greeks he knew were either party-crazy or dropped out because they didn't like the system. And so because of stereotypes, he was worried that rushing/joining a sorority would turn me into something I'm not. Luckily, he was still supportive (listened when I called him every night - stayed with me after pref night/before bid day because I was nervous - I had suicided my house), and has gotten much more used to attending sorority events. He's even becoming friends with my sisters .

Anyways, try not to let him get you down, but understand where he's coming from (especially if he had previous associations with sorority girls). However, make sure he knows that you would really like his support as you're going through rush. Best of luck!

Sorry I know I haven't really been updating. I really want to give every detail but I'm trying to be discreet at the same time. After rush is over I really want to recount my whole story to help those girls who come here like I did to get a feel for what to expect from rush. Anyway, round 3 is tomorrow and I'm really nervous. I only got 5 invites back for round 2 out of a possible 11, which even though I was prepared for since i'm a sophomore it was still a little disheartening to see so many people around me with a full schedule. But I'm trying to make the best of it and I went back to my 5 even though 3 of them were on my bottom 5 when we ranked the houses after round 1. But it was really great going back to those houses to give them a second chance and my experiences were much better second time around. So here's hoping those same 5 invite me back for round 3. I feel like I've really been making a connection with these women and would love to know more about my remaining houses. I'll try to keep everyone posted more than before, haha even though i doubt anyone was on the edge of their seat. Thanks you guys for all of your support.
