I am a huge fan of Bea Arthur and wonder if she is related to Bethany Frankel, does anyone know? That is a side note so back to the topic. I found Maude tapes in my grandmother's closet and thought it would be a good show. Wow, I was VERY wrong. The episode touched on such heavy topics it made the show depressing like Maude getting an abortion. I can't believe a show can even base an episode on that? I don't think you can atleast in 2010 and this is way past the shows time. Her open use of pill taking and husband trying to commit suicide! This is far from the comedy I expected it would be. I never heard of half the shows that came on ABC or the rest back then. Lol, what is Room 222, Adam's Rib, Marcus Welby, nvm the list is way to long of popular shows I have never seen TV Land reruns of!

I used to love Room 222 as a kid. I'd love to see it now. Marcus Welby was good too from what I remember, for the times.

The 70s were a very different time, FP. Things that are commonplace today, such as abortion, were barely even mentioned in mixed company back then. All of a sudden, it was OK to have such subjects on TV and producers milked it for all it was worth. Maude is a good example, as was anything produced by Norman Lear, who also did All In The Family and Good Times. The show of his that irritated me the most, though, was One Day At A Time. It just didn't ring true for me - the mom was selfish and spoiled and the two girls were the grownups in the family. Anyway, I'd take it all with a grain of salt. That 70's Show is much more remininescent, to me, of what life was like when I was in high school than anything like Maude or One Day At A Time.

If you'd been watching Beverly Hillbillies for 10 years and silly shows like it, trust me, Maude was a welcome change. No, 50 year old women don't get pregnant and have abortions every day, but nor do grandmothers box kangaroos.

If Bea is related to that Bethany idiot, I hope that her relatives would not acknowledge it. I have no idea where that concept came from.

The Odd Couple and WKRP were the best shows of the 1970s and they still hold up.

I especialy agree with WKRP. Talk about shows that tanked only because their network kept moving them "up and down the dial" (or from night to night)!

M*A*S*H was a great change from the canned laughter shows, too.

There was NOTHING I loved more when I was a wee lass than to stay up late (or get up as early as 3am) to catch Carol Burnett, All In The Family, Maude, and Little House on the Prarie, and WKRP, Laverne and Shirley and the like.

I LOVED that stuff. Bea Arthur was my favorite GG. I most certainly hope she is not related to Bethany Frankel.

Carol Burnett is classic! We watched it every Saturday night and discussed it at school on Monday. We even acted out the "family" and I was always the sister Ellen. I also liked Mary Tyler Moore and Bob Newhart, even though, as a child, they were kind of hard for me to relate to, since they weren't family-centered like, say, The Partridge Family. WKRP is probably my husband's favorite show of all time!

I loved staying up late to watch reruns of the show in the 80's. I was so excited when we were at the Smithsonian this summer and got to see her famous curtain dress from the episode making fun of Gone with the Wind. We also got to see Archie Bunker's chair from All in the Family

I loved Carol Burnett and Little House on the Prairie. Never missed an episode of either show.

FWIW, my mother adored Tim Conway. One year, I wrote to him and said that he was my mother's favorite comedian, and would he autograph a picture of hiself for her birthday. Not only did he do so, but he included a tape of some of his favorite outtakes, "Because I'm not so sure your daughter's going to spring for much more!" She was tickled pick, even if the Fashion Police episode wasn't included (and yes, I did get her a "real" present, too)!

I used to love "the Brady Bunch," and "The Partridge Family." They aired on Friday night in Sacramento, followed by "The Odd Couple." If my brother and I were really well behaved, we got to stay up and watch "The Odd Couple." Oh- and Mary Tyler Moore! Other little girls may have dreamed of their weddings, but I wanted to be single, and have an apartment and a life like MTM'S! The Sonny and Cher show was also a favorite. When I was eight years old, all I wanted was to be able to dress like Cher. My goals that year were to become a hairdresser, live in Modesto, and dress like Cher. (I think I may have watched too much TV as a kid!)
