SGRho in mind and heart
Hello ladies of Sigma Gamma Rho. I am a high school student getting ready to graduate, and want to join a sorority. Growing up every one talked of AKA and DST, but I discoverd early that DST was not for me. About 3 mon. ago I was exposed to the name SGRho, and wanted to know more. I reserched every day on AKA and you all to, studying the history, mission, and services. I'll be the first in my family to pledge, and want to make a desicion that will be carried out with my girls and their girls too. Please let me know why you decide to join the sorority that you did, and not one of the others. I know hearing things from real member's hearts will be most helpful.
Thankyou

u know what shyne,
all of the sororities are great choices so u will not lose as long as u choose the one in your heart.
i was just like u, always hearing about dst and aka. but i knew there were others and i wanted to see what they were about.
sgrho caught my attention with the motto:Greater Service Greater Progress.
i noticed that no matter how small the chapter was these girls got things done and done them well
i also noticed that these girls were not the girls always in the "spot light." however, these were the girls behind the scenes working very hard.
also, the sisterhood is truly an experience in itself. when u meet another soRHOr, it's like u have known her all of your life.
the history of sgrho in itself is amazing.
what these 7 ladies must have went though to start a Black soroity on a majority white campus in the heart of KKK land.... well they must have been some brave sisters!!
i can go on and on and on. but i just gave u a little taste of why i joined this great sorority. hope your search leads u to the right choice

I joined this sorority, because it was the only one to truly capture my heart. Now I know that ladies in all organizations can make that statement, but Sigma Gamma Rho was the only soroity that showed me madd love before I even became an SGRHO. Imagine being in a room full of Sigmas and they hug you and talk to you like you are already a sister, and they don't know you from a can of paint. Well that was my experience. As a college freshmen, there was no chapter on my campus, but there were SGRHOs around, and they made me feel comfortable, and appreciated. The Sigma bound was strong for me well before I became a Sigma, and it is still growing strong. My advice to you is to make sure you find a oganization that makes you feel at home. I can tell you this, the love one experiences as a lady of SGRHO is overwhelming and the feeling of being a Sigma is all powerful, cause in Sigma you grow, and in the blue and gold you flourish. Okay, enough of my pitch, good luck on you search for you new home.

RHOyal-scilence, everything you said was most helpful- and I know that you understand the importance of my decision. I want to be an epitome of greatness, and represent the right oraganization in the most positve light for those after me. If you know of any member in G'boro,N.C. that would be willing to share some more wonderful things a\b SGRho, please e-mail me at

Yo, espeRHO, all that you had to say was positive. What I do like about sgrho already, is the fact that y'all up lift the organization with out coming off like;
(-we are the best just b\c, and why'd you even have to ask, and don't insult us by comparing us-) I'm glad that I haven't experienced that from yall.

there are MANY reasons why i chose Sigma over the other organizations, all of the sororities do GREAT work in the community and stake claim to being a true sisterhood, so with those 2 out of the way, i'll give you my 2 deciding factors:
1. as a prospect, I was NEVER treated as an inferior being because i wasnt one of them, and it was never hinted that i needed to kiss @ss in order to get the CHANCE to become one. Each member I met respected and had love for me as a "sista" eventhough i was not their "soror."
2. sigma stood (and continues to stand) on her own two feet - her own merit. the sgrhos i met never tried to CONVINCE me that i should join them because of the way that i look, or by bad mouthing other sororities, or because of a fraternity, or status, or any other shallow reasonings. It was always about the business at hand and whether or not i was down.
i wish you the best of luck in your quest!!!

PrettyP6,
The two reasons that you gave, are a couple on a list that I've made up. And #1 on my list, is to be apart of an organization that loves me for who I am and what I aspier to be,instead of wanting to duplicate me. In my opinion, independent people that bring positive diversity to an organization, have similar morals, and much love make a true sisterhood and brotherhood for that matter.
Thanks so much!

u know what shyne,
u are very lucky.
when i was going through my decision process i never even heard of "greekchat." i felt kind of alone in making my decision. but i must say that i definitely made the right one. sgrho was the only rush i attended and i became a rho after just one rush. that was all it took for these girls to convince me
i truly hope these posts help make your choice easier.

Shyne, it has been very interesting to see the comments of other Sigma Gamma Rho's from other parts of the country because I could sample each of the other comments to answer your question. I saw some of my own words in every response.
I, too, was a college student on a campus where Sigma Gamma Rho was not the majority. However, they stood out the most because of their/her (there was only 1 member in the chapter) dedication to community service and community involvement.
Despite disrespect often times from other sororities, her Sigma torch shined brightly in everything she did. She did not try to recruit me for the sorority, she was just my friend and helped me adjust to campus life at a majority white university.
She didn't even have to talk about Sigma Gamma Rho for me to see the love and dedication she had in her heart for her sorors and the sorority motto "Greater Service, Greater Progress". It did not take me long to want to be a part of this sisterhood. I looked and researched and went to informational meetings for the other 3 sororities and they were not for me. I would elaborate but I don't want to reaffirm the stereotypes.
Keep up your search for information, do what is in your heart, and one day we hope to be able to say "EE-YIP soror!". Keep us posted.

R-SCILENCE and MPSGR22,
Thank you both so much for your unbais support in my decision. mpsgr22 you could have easily busted those other sorority informationals you attended up; but you didn't. I think that SGRho would be the best for me. Eventhough my freinds say that I'm not down home enough one, but just prissy enough for the other.( i'm not prissy, i'm just neat) But N-E ways I've decided that I wanna pledge. If the ladies at the school I'll be attending are like you guys, I know I can't go wrong with SGRho.

u know what shyne..
that just goes back to stereotypes.
your freinds are basing that because they may think that one group is for "prissy" girls and the other is for "down home" girls.
well i am here to tell you that i am a down home prissy girl! i am cute and i know it. i am down to earth also.
there is no such thing as one type of girl for xyz organiztion.
it is the different personalities coming together for a common goal.
when u get to school hopefully everyone in the divine 9 will treat u as the lady u are.
good luck. have fun. God bless
