New ESL school library is dedicated

EAST ST. LOUIS --A dedication ceremony for the LaRona J. Morris Library at Mason-Clark Middle School will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the school at 5510 State St.
The dedication service will include an unveiling of a portrait of the late LaRona Morris, and reflections from International Grand Basileus of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., Mynora J. Bryant, former East St. Louis Mayor and School District Superintendent William E. Mason and St. Clair County Assessor and former East St. louis Mayor Gordon D. Bush, according to information released by the district.
Morris was the principal of Clark Middle School until her death in 2005. She died at the age of 62 from lung cancer, according to the district.
Morris held a variety of leadership positions in the academic and public service fields, including school board member, assistant principal of East St. Louis Senior High School, assistant principal and principal at Wirth Junior High School and deputy city clerk under the late East St. Louis Mayor James E. Williams, according to the district.
Morris led the establishment of uniform policy in the district and the Junior ROTC program at East St. Louis Senior High School. She also initiated youth programs including Operation BigBookBag and Sigma Youth Symposium.
